Wait, there's people who actually like Apollo? Please point me in the direction of these beautiful people.

Anything other than a new Phoenix game would be great. The franchise just can't let the poor guy go.

Apollo is actually my favorite defense lawyer negl. Phoenix is a close second though.

I'm one of those special snowflakes who not only loved Apollo, but also loved Trucy and Klavier. Come fight me. With enormous red text and pointing fingers.

Bitches don't know what they're missing. Klavier was a refreshing non-jerk, and Trucy was an extremely successful Maya-clone.

Forever butthurt Apollo probably won't get a second game. All that lost potential if they'd gotten a chance to work out the kinks of AJ...
cloud_riven: Stick-man styled Apollo Justice wearing a Santa hat, and also holding a giant candy cane staff. (Apollo Justice is pretty awesome)

That is the cutest little icon in the world!

So heartwarming to know so many appreciate this dweeb. ;o;

I loved Apollo. I just wish Phoenix hadn't been in it or at least wasn't a hobo.

But the rest? I adored that.

This! Thisthisthisthis! I'm pretty sure I would have liked the Apollo Justice game a lot more if Phoenix had been one of the following: a) not in the game at all b) a regular non-disbarred mentor type character (think Mia, only not dead) or c) just a funny background mention (think Apollo reading the newspaper about the latest Wright/Edgeworth court showdown or something).

I just... I will forever feel like the plot centered too much around Phoenix, and I hated what they'd done to him, so I kinda hated the game too, despite liking the new characters.

Then again... I also hated what they did to Ema. Failing that exam and becoming a bitter detective instead? NOOOO.

[personal profile] forgottenjester 2012-12-13 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
Oh wow, we agree pretty much 100%. Everything you said? Yes. Double yes.

I seriously don't understand why Apollo couldn't just be his mentee.

[personal profile] derpmaid 2012-12-13 08:34 am (UTC)(link)
I know! And if they really wanted to keep the formula of non-law-educated (female) side-kick, just have Phoenix unfortunately swamped with his own cases, allowing him to not play a bigger role than Mia did (since Maya couldn't always channel her) but still... not be a bitter hobo who acts nothing like Phoenix at all.

It will forever baffle me that Phoenix just took the page Trucy handed to him with the words "Some guy wanted me to give you this" and then used it as evidence. He's not that stupid! And Klavier just trusted his brother, who should have had nothing to do with that case when he shows up all like "Oh, that defense attorney you'll go up against tomorrow? He'll use fake evidence. Go get him."

Sometimes, I want to write fix-it fanfiction...

[personal profile] forgottenjester 2012-12-13 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the storyline was really flimsy and that's saying something for this series. And then the bastardization of the characters... efajhbfjhfb.

So yeah, we have very similar feelings.

The thing is, with a little tweaking they could have had the exact same storyline without getting Phoenix disbarred and having a different personality.

[personal profile] derpmaid 2012-12-13 06:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Ugh, yes. I mean, the games' plots might never have been super, but... Apollo Justice - Ace Attorney ends up being like a bad fanfiction.

We do! I'm always happy to find people who agree with me.

Phoenix gets the page, but doesn't present it, because he doesn't know where it came from... but as he loses the case, Gramarye still takes off and leaves Phoenix with Trucy, only now he has an actual job. Klavier is utterly confused, because there was supposed to be face evidence and upon hearing that, Phoenix starts wondering who tried to set him up... wow, look! Apollo Justice - Ace Attorney without bitter!hobo!Phoenix.
forgottenjester: (Default)

[personal profile] forgottenjester 2012-12-13 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah! And then Klavier can start trying to go up against Phoenix more often because he thinks Phoenix is up to something. He thinks that maybe Phoenix didn't present the evidence because he knew Klavier was onto him. And then Apollo comes along and Klavier starts to focus on him because he doesn't want another defense attorney to be "Corrupted" by Phoenix.

Then Kristoph can still kill Gramerye because the guy knows too much. I mean, after the case all the evidence had to be locked away. Even if Phoenix never used it, the page is still there. You could even have a thing where that bit of evidence was stolen from the police files by Kristoph and Klavier thinks Phoenix did it.

And Ema Skye did pass her test. She is now using her knowledge in her job as a detective. The reason she was put in that position instead of straight forensic specialist is because she was good at other parts of the job too so they wanted her to try being a detective first. She's getting field experience right now.

Boom, fixed everything.

[personal profile] derpmaid 2012-12-13 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes! Exactly! And of course Kristoph has to kill Gramarye. If Phoenix finds out who it was who was Gramarye's attorney before Phoenix, he'll be able to link Kristoph to the fake diary page which will send him snooping and in turn, maybe allow him to completely ruin Kristoph's career! (Kristoph is, of course, pissed at Phoenix for not only having taken over the Gramarye case, but also for being considered the best attorney around).

And yes, of course he would steal the face diary page (not knowing that there is a copy of it in the judge's office, on Phoenix's request), it's the number one damning evidence against him!

Yes! That fits her so much better, being a forensic specialized detective rather than a bitter detective who failed the forensic exam despite it practically being her life even at a young age (seriously...).

Yep. In a few lj comments, we've fixed everything that was wrong with the plot of Apollo Justice. Seriously, I actually find this plot not only more in-character for Phoenix, but also better/more interesting.

[personal profile] forgottenjester 2012-12-14 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
That is so sad but true. I find it more interesting too, which is why I am making all of this my headcanon now because it's so much better than what we got.

I think the only other thing I could complain about was that one moment when you have to use evidence you got in the future in the past.
derpmaid: I cannot remember where I found this icon. Would cred otherwise. (Default)

[personal profile] derpmaid 2012-12-14 08:39 am (UTC)(link)
Yup, headcanon totally accepted. Still this urge to write this as fic...

... I honestly think my mind has chosen to block that out, because I don't even remember that.
forgottenjester: (Default)

[personal profile] forgottenjester 2012-12-14 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Do iiiiiiiiiiittt.

Ahaha! Lucky you! It was in the last case. I couldn't remember what piece of evidence it was so I looked it up on TV Tropes.

They said, "In the last case of Apollo Justice, when you have the ability to look in both the past and the present to see the evidence that Phoenix has collected, Phoenix presents evidence that he can't possibly have at the time he presents it, and draws conclusions based on knowledge he will have in the future. For example, the picture of Trucy's mother that you get from Valant Grammarye? You use it to break Zak's Psyche lock SIX MONTHS EARILER! I should probably stress that you get the picture after Zak DIES! And then there's the whole thing with Vera. How does "seven years ago" Phoenix have any clue that the bottle on the desk could possibly be Vera's good luck charm? If it was in the present, I would be fine with it, but our Phoenix hasn't seen that bottle before in his life. Also, why does "seven years ago" Phoenix know to suggest Kristoph as Vera's secret client? He has no reason to suspect Kristoph at that time, not until the events seven years later, when he sees that bottle of nail polish in Kristoph's cell? It boggles the mind!"

So... yeah... That's a problem.
derpmaid: I cannot remember where I found this icon. Would cred otherwise. (Default)

[personal profile] derpmaid 2012-12-14 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
But I don't wanna do it aloooone! I'd want someone to discuss with, because the first case would need to be pretty much completely redone considering the fact that lawyer!Phoenix would have no reason to be in the Borscht Bowl Club and everything...

Oh... Oh that's right. Oh god that's terrible.

The more you actually think about what went on in Apollo Justice, the more it seems like the writers... kinda didn't really care to put any effort into it.

[personal profile] forgottenjester 2012-12-15 06:17 am (UTC)(link)
I would be willing to help but I don't know how consistent I will be considering I'm really busy right now. We can try but I can't guarantee I'll always be available. I'm sorry. D: But if you're okay with that...

Yup, it's pretty bad.

Eh, it's only the last case that really has problems. But really, I think it has to do with two things:

1) The head writer or whatever really didn't want to write anything with Phoenix anymore but was forced to.

2) The entire story was written as pro-jury propaganda because Japan at the time was switching from a non-jury system to a jury system. The people of Japan during that time were very wary about the new system's implementation. So the government was doing a whole PR thing to improve opinions. This helped.

[personal profile] derpmaid 2012-12-15 02:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I'm rather busy right now as well, so it wouldn't be an immediate project anyway. So I would be okay with that... XD

Well, true, but that's because the last case is tying the entire game's plot together.

1) I can understand that being annoying, but still... :/

2) Oh yeah, I see. Well, still wish it'd been better done than it was. Le sigh.
forgottenjester: (Default)

[personal profile] forgottenjester 2012-12-15 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, even with the reasons for it they still sound like horrible excuses.
derpmaid: I cannot remember where I found this icon. Would cred otherwise. (Default)

[personal profile] derpmaid 2012-12-15 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I mean. Okay, so he doesn't want to write more about Phoenix. Tough shit, it's his job, not his hobby.
forgottenjester: (Default)

[personal profile] forgottenjester 2012-12-15 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I sympathize with him that he was getting forced to do it and he loved his job so seeing it being used like a cash cow probably really hurt. On the other hand, there are so many ways he could have done it so this it wouldn't ruin the character and it would be a huge middle finger to his bosses. There are ways to please the fans and show up your boss at the same time.

I also love Apollo :)

I think he was a great attorney and I really loved the cast of characters that surrounded him as well. (I think I even like Klavier more than Edgeworth, which is sacrilegious.)

I need more Apollo, Klavier, Ema, and Trucy in my life.

Polly, Trucy, Klavier, and Ema are pretty much my favourite characters in the series. They should totally have been the stars of the next game. v_v

I love Nick, Maya, Pearl, Edgie, and all of them, too, but...
