Yep, me too. Aggressive, overbearing, lecturing, always angry/cranky, and not very supportive. I sure as fuck would not want to have a friend like that.

And the TOS version was even worse, seeing as he had more screen time to make me hate his guts.

Awwwww. I totally disagree, OP. DeForest Kelley will always have a special place in my heart, and I feel like Karl Urban's version of him is a very respectful and loving homage to the original incarnation of the character that manages to bring his own interpretation to the screen.

Within the Trio, I think Bones plays a very important function. Kirk and Spock are both extremes on a continuum. Spock, at least early on in his original incarnation, denies his emotions and would approach everything with logic. Kirk is like an exposed nerve (in both incarnations, I think); he is all heart and emotion. Bones is a wonderful middleman. He's a scientist, so he's down with the logic, but he's also wonderfully irascible and full of mischief and wit. He's the perfect foil for his two best friends.

Well, I can't speak much for Nu!Trek [I'd have to rewatch it and well...seeing as I don't care for time travel idk how inclined I really am to do that], but TOS Bones was awesome. Cranky as he was, he was still a pretty good friend - even in Nu!trek from the little I remember.

That said, each to their own OP.

Almost any other character and I'd say, well, live and let live.

But Bones?

He's my favorite character. But if you don't like him, that's fine. Is this a secret because he's well-loved and you're afraid of lash back or something?

I hate bones too! I mean nothing like chewing on a tasty piece of fish and then BAM there's a bone sticking in the top of your mouth.

I don't like Bones much either, but I really hate Booth. Wait, you're not talking about that Bones? You mean Dr. McCoy? Can't say I have much of an opinion either way on him. I'm not very enthusiastic about anything TOS, but I've never been moved to hate him.

Okay, if you're talking about TOS!Bones, I can kind of see that. There were times when he really went too far in his fights with Spock. But, when push came to shove, he was always a loyal friend who had his (and Kirk's) back no matter what.

If you're strictly talking about Nu!Bones, I don't get it. Does the hypospray scene with Kirk really drive you to hate him? It was a plan thought up on the spot and if he hadn't done it, Kirk wouldn't have gotten on the Enterprise and basically they all would have died. Other than that, he had a pretty small part. Odds are he'll have about that amount of screentime in the next one. Probably less, since there's a bunch of new characters.

Well, that's your opinion and you're certainly entitled to it. This is why there are seven regular characters, so people can pick and choose who they connect with. However, having said all of that, *my* opinion is that your opinion sucks. ;)

Love Bones to pieces, in both incarnations.

I recoiled in horror at this secret and clutched my pearls. Bones is my favorite thing about the reboot tbh.

I was about to recoil in horror at this and then I remembered mid thought that I actually don't like him either, Karl Urban just made me forget because of his prettiness.

So yeah, I pretty much agree. I don't dislike him as much as TOS Bones, but he is indeed an overly grumpy jackass and a bad friend. (Seriously, saying he liked Spock after he mocked Jim about his dad's death, standing there while Spock nearly killed him (both with the choking and the marooning) and being all 'hell naw, we're fucked' when Jim took over command? Seriously dickish.)
