For the same reason that skimpily-dressed female superheroes are a bad thing: it looks ridiculous and it's fucking distracting as hell. Semi-practical costumes are hot enough with their spandex and impractically cool frills and designs, they don't need to look like they got ambushed in the middle of getting kinky with their partner in a hotel room.

But yeah, I guess if you can't have everyone dressing properly, everyone dressing like porn stars is better than just the women dressing like that...

I was going to write a similar comment, but I came to the same conclusion you did and realized I was chasing my tail.

People are always going to have an appetite for the ridiculous, it just really sucks when that's only ever applied in one direction, and when it's seen as totally normal and unquestioned. If we have to do it, let's make sure we're all clear on how ridiculous it is.

I'm mostly over the parody/deconstruction superhero comics of the "Hey, ever thought about X aspect of superheroes?" (because yes, most folks have).

But now I kind of want to see a series where the male and female heroes dress in utterly ridiculous, stripperriffic outfits, much to the discomfort of the civilians.


That or Gender-swapped Justice League, played entirely straight.
