I started watching ATLA as a teenager. I'm twenty five now and you know what? I loved LoK a lot more. Of course I'm not hypersensitive about Mako, I don't think Asami is a weeping fragile waifu, and I don't think Bolin ever wanted to be a cop. So there's that.

Because those are the actual reasons why a lot of people were disappointed with LoK...

My point. Bolin being a cop was fanon only. If theres one thing the ATLA fandom should have learned the last time is that fanon will never become canon, and they shouldn't get upset when it doesn't. Asami is not a wilting flower in need of a man to save her. Yeah she was down about her month long relationship ending, but you know what? They never got to know each other before they started dating and they were teens. That happens all the time. As for Mako, well, I love flawed fuckers. And I honestly don't think he's worse than the man who chained up children. :P

I love flawed fuckers when they're presented and called out as flawed fuckers. Mako is a flawed fucker who is very briefly called out on his fuckery, but rather than learning, he creates even more fuckery and we're expected to root for him.

That's the difference between him and Yakone. Yakone was a Complete Monster and treated like a Complete Monster. Mako was a complete Jerkass who we were supposed to root for somehow.

The only thing Mako did was over-react to Korra being in trouble and not realizing he was obsessing over Korra. Sorry but I don't think that's on the level of "Oh my god, someone throw away the key" :P

He cheated on his girlfriend, then tried to blame it on his brother when he got called out on it and we're supposed to sympathize. To me, that's a Jerkass. Nothing to be locked up for, but still an awful character.

I don't think it's cheating. It may have been crummy to do, but kissing a girl back who kissed you after you've only been dating someone you just met for a few weeks isn't exactly "Oh, I had an affair and I hope my longterm love doesn't find out!"

They're teenagers, they're awkward. Sorry, but I'm just not seeing what he did as anything near Yakone or his brother. And I certainly do not think he should have been chased down with pitchforks for it either :P

Oh, so it's it's not really cheating if the relationship is only a few months old? Tell me, what's your cutoff for when it's not okay to be a two-timing douchecanoe?

And I never said it was anything near what Yakone did (quite the opposite, actually), but nice attempt at a strawman, I guess? I'm not advocating him being chased down with pitchforks, either. Just saying it's more than understandable why a significant chunk of the fandom hcan;t stand him.

Any particular reasons as to why you prefer LoK over ATLA?

I find the characters more enjoyable. To be honest I found Aang to be very annoying. There isn't a single character in ToK that I don't like.

I found Aang annoying as hell, too. But I'd rather watch Nightmares and Daydreams on loop for 6 hours than watch LoK again.

Me, too, actually. I liked ATLA fine, but I greatly preferred LoK. I know how angry this opinion makes the fandom, but it's true. Korra was way cooler than Aang, it was easier for me to relate with an older teen character than a twelve year old. Hell, I liked all the characters, even Mako. I also really enjoyed the "steampunk" style setting, and thought the humor was great. My only regret is that this story was stuffed into twelve episodes, if it had been 24 I think it would have been a lot better - slow things down, build the drama more, explore the characters... but as it was, I'd much rather rewatch Korra than ATLA.

Lol there are a lot more reasons to be disappointed in LoK than that. Seriously? THERE ARE A LOT OF HUGE, HUGE FLAWS.

That being said, Bolin not being a cop doesn't bug me at all (I didn't even know it was a popular fanon before Mako was announced as being one). And who thinks Asami is a weeping fragile waifu? Being irritated at the way Mako treated her does not mean we don't think she can handle herself.

I have seen hundreds of posts/fanart/fanfic on Tumblr about how 'broken' she is. The 'girl who loved too much', how much agony and soul shattering pain she has endured!, Oh how she'll never love again! type of stuff. (She's a seventeen year old dating an eighteen year old she barely knew for a month or so. Over-dramatic is an understatement!)

Ah I haven't seen this, but I mostly just hang out in the Korrasami sector of fandom so that's probably why.
