Exactly.

Also, they're physically very different,so it's a ship open for broad tastes.

Two hot dudes. You already have your answer.

Since most fanfic is written by teen girls, you are gonna get what they are interested in. Guess what? That's two hot dudes.

We can do better though.

I ship Moneypenny x Komodo Dragon.

I still hold that M and Silva had the most (disturbing) chemistry in the entire movie. But, yeah, not getting the love for Q/Bond. But as long as people are happy, I guess?

Although I didn't see it in the movie, I can see someone shipping it. It's the odd couple trope & a hell of a lot of people do like that.

[personal profile] glo_unit 2012-12-19 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
Along with both of them being hot dudes, they easily fall into the seme/uke roles that a lot of yaoi fangirls love and most of slash fandom tends to follow.

who fucking gives a shit

people are REALLY pressed at other people finding things hot in this fandom. or, you know, fandom in general, I guess. when did it become so prudish?

(Anonymous) 2012-12-19 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, they did - they just took the interaction and different way, saw [felt?] different chemistry, have different tropes they like in their pairings, or just like two hot dudes together. All of those are perfectly valid reasons to like and ship a ship.

I predicted this would be the go-to pairing the moment I saw Q. I also predicted there would be a hell of a lot more fandom for this Bond movie.

Q is the first real male bond character attractive and interesting enough to be paired with Bond. The Bond women might entice the het shippers, but they are usually so bland and undeveloped and rarely have more than 10 minutes of staying power even in canon. But Q could conceivably show up in the next Bond movie as well, that leaves a lot of between the lines to fill.

non sequitur: LiveJournal is currently taking another massive dump.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-19 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
My theory is less "2 Hot Dudes" but "2 Hot Dudes, one of whom is a solid fan avatar". Like, Q (seems) to be kind of dorky, smart, weird, all the things that fandom folks like to think of themselves as. It's much less about Bond; before this movie, it had a pretty negligible fandom, and most of it seemed to be headcanon about Bond and M's relationship. Throw a nerdy guy in the mix, and, well....

(Anonymous) 2012-12-19 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
Hot-white-dude-ness beats good chemistry every time, don't you know.

I thought they were the most obvious pairing (for slashers) myself.

They each represent the larger conflict in the film - old vs. new - and also have their interaction representing the fusion of the two when they work together.

There's also the fact that Q is a self-assured snarky bastard who doesn't take Bond's crap. Yeah, Bond thought Q was an upstart kid when he first saw him, but was already changing his mind by the end of that first conversation. When they later work together, it goes really well, and while they snark at each other they obviously respect each other's expertise. Bond follows Q's directions unquestioningly during the train chase, and later asks for his help. Q trusts in Bonds skills completely when directing him.

Silva is creepy and dead and won't show up again, and slashers (like myself) aren't going to be interested in het. I liked Bond/Eve and Bond/Sévérine in the film, but that's not what I use fanfic for.

Of course, I think a lot of people write them OOC (if one of them is submissive, it sure as hell isn't Q), but I think the appeal in the movie was really clear.

I don't get pairing Bond with men at all since he's proven himself to be pretty damn set on women as sexual partners. There was no chemistry between Bond and Q or Bond and Silva. That scene was intended to squick Bond out and make him lose his resolve/poise, same as it was in Casino Royale with Le Chiffe. But nooooo. Fandom loves its slash goggles. Ugh.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-19 06:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I love you.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-19 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I get why it's happening and I have no problem with it. But: Most of the fic is basically unreadable because it's totally clear that the writers aren't interested in James Bond as a character at all. He's just a cypher so they can write about Q. And Q just isn't a very interesting character in canon IMO. But I find Craig's Bond interesting, layered, complex, and his characterization gets completely destroyed in most Bond/Q fics. So, yeah, there's more fandom now, but it's not very interesting to me since I want to read about James Bond and they see portray Bond as one-dimensional window-dressing for Q.

I get that you don't like the ship and nobody's forcing you to, but ... saying that they had no chemistry? They didn't have much screentime, sure, but what bit they had was all snark and banter and intense eyefucking and Q helping Bond even though it might not be the best idea. I don't give a fuck about Bond/Moneypenny or Bond/Silva, but I don't go around bashing those ships and pretending they have no canon basis just because I don't like them. Grow up.

tbh, while i agree with that sentiment i'll keep on happily reading 00Q. the human weapon/invention guy seems to be a thing for me, ezio/leo, adam jensen/francis pritchard, etc.

i'd also like to read some skyfall fic that isn't rapefic, which 90% of anything involving silva is, and nobody writes mallory!m/bond or eve/bond (sob) so my pickings are rather slim for things i'd be interested in.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-19 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I honestly don't see what's so complicated about wanting porn with two hot dudes. I loved the canon Bond/Moneypenney dynamic to pieces - awesome and tons of chemistry. But I tend to go for flat out porn if I bother with fanfiction, and yeah, two hot guys are better than one for me.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-19 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Cloud Atlas left me really wanting Ben Whishaw gay smut. But there is no real fandom for that, so 00Q was the second best option I could find.

So there's my reason.
