I wasn't particularly worried when you first posted this because there were still less than 100 comments on today's post, but now I'm getting worried.

I agree, but really a big part of it comes down to the fact that of all the beta kid relationships theirs is the one Hussie spent the absolute least amount of time on. They've had all of 2 pesterlogs in the entire story. Hell, John has talked to fuckin' "watch me as I get you killed ha ha ha ha ha" Terezi more than that.

1. Please please please tell us who is the artist behind this gorgeous art.

2. I never thought about it, but yeah, I think Rose and Jade could have had some very interesting interactions -- the sure had the right personalities for both getting along and still having curious disagreements --, and now I'm genuinely sad we didn't get to see more of them.

Honestly, this is pretty much my biggest complaint about Homestuck: Andrew Hussie is very good at developing characters that would normally be flat as fuck and make you care about them, but the cast is so ridiculously big already that there is only so much juggling between them he can do without dragging the story for years and years like a shounen manga in order to visit them all.

I just want to see more and more of each character, but I know it's not gonna ever be enough, even if he did.

Ah, well, that is what fanfiction is there for.

I hope fanficcers start paying more attention to these two, OP. I've seen some good interactions between them as part of bigger fics, but not centering around them. :(

Yeah, I agree that they don't have as much canon interaction other characters and I know everybody isn't going to have a deep meaningful scene together. But the fandom is vast and creative and loves expanding on small details.

I know, I should just write something myself and I might but it probably won't be good.

I agree. I like Homestuck a lot, but the cast jumble confuses me sometimes, and I do wish that Rose and Jade had more interactions.

People don't explore their friendship because they've had limited pesterlogs and no one cares about the girls.

they sure care about the girls (hello, Vriska? Meenah? Terezi?), it just doesn't seem so because the character cast is HUGE, and there are many divided followings

it doesn't help that for the longest time Jade was fairly bland and her whole shtick was being "mysterious girl who knows about the future", and by the time her characterization kicked in properly, more interesting characters (the trolls) were just being introduced

Rose was more interesting, but it's hard to find someone for her to play off in ways that are entertaining; her interactions that worked out well were:

- Dave, because she saw right through his facade (like the rest of his friends), but unlike Jade and John, she didn't hesitate to tease him about it and try to get to know the real him (John and Jade, bless their hearts, loved him just the way he is, so they didn't poke and prod at his "cool kid" persona so much)

- Doc Scratch, because it was a classical "corruption by a devil-like figure of someone who is too curious and clever for their own good"

- Kanaya, because we could see how Kanaya went from idolizing her, to disliking her, to being afraid of her, to being worried for her, and then to liking her

Everyone else didn't interact with her enough to be more than momentarily entertaining, and although she interacted a lot with John and it was sweet how fond of him she was, most of this happened during the very start of the comic, where the characters were still finding their voices (and so was Andrew with the plot and rhythm of the story), and their interactions are something you catch more on subsequent re-reads

with Jade, they just didn't have enough interactions, and they were eclipsed by all the stuff that was going on around them, and by other characters

and to be honest, Jade doesn't play off on other characters that much beyond getting fed up with the trolls (Karkat especially) and being cute with her friends

+1 this whole comment. especially the part about jade's initial characterization being kind of bland and 2D with the "mysterious future-knowing girl" thing.
