Gollum was all different kinds of creepy, doused with creepy-sauce and wrapped in a creepy-bun. I was freaked out during his scenes.

I think the movie was lots of fun. Good script, good costumes, some hot dwarves, good special effects. My only complaint was Martin Freeman. He didn't play Bilbo any differently than he plays John Watson. I kind of got the impression that I was just watching him play himself.

EXCELLENT, gollum has always been my fave :)

NA - I like the LotR movies ok but can't stand any of Tolkien's books. But I LOVE Gollum and while I was a bit underwhelmed by The Hobbit because seemed more like a kid's movie than I had expected, Gollum made the entire movie worth it for me. You'll probably have a really great time because it sounds like you like the Middle Earth universe more than I do.

I never really understood that complaint. I think Martin's Watson is much calmer and braver person than his Bilbo, and their situations in their respective stories are completely different.

The situations are different, but that's because of the writer and not the actor. I just felt like Bilbo had the same mannerisms, the same tone, the same frustration as Watson.

Still, we've got two more movies. He might grow into the role over the time and feel more comfortable with the character. If not well, I've got sexy dwarves to make up for it.

I saw some Watson in Bilbo - for about the first fifteen minutes he appeared. Then I decided to actually watch what the actor was doing and there is quite a difference between his Watson and his Bilbo - It's not his fault that the exasperation/frustration of Watson/Sherlock and Bilbo/a metric fuckton of dwarves is somewhat similar.

Martin Freeman has been playing the same role since Tim from The Office.

I really don't get how this doesn't bother the rest of the world.

I gave up saying anything about it after he ruined HHGTTG because the world is love with him for some unfathomable reason.

I really disliked him in Hitch hikers as well. Not only because he wasn't what i imagined Arthur to be but because he was playing almost the same character as everything else I'd ever seen him in.

So does Johnny Depp and everyone thinks he's Oh So Amazing. Pfft.

Only when he works with Tim Burton, to be fair. Other than that, he plays(ed) some varied roles over his career.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-22 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
How the fuck are Edward Scissorhands, Mort Rainey, and Jack Sparrow anything alike?

It's like you've only seen him in Tim Burton movies or something.

And that, my dears, is what you call "typecasting" - and it's hardly the actors fault.
