:( i have tickets to TWO sessions and i'm getting worried :(

(Anonymous) 2012-12-21 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
don't listen to the debbie downers. It's a great movie. It sounds like they really didn't want to be there anyways.

i've read countless complaints about the high frame rate (whatever it is) and the 3D...my bff and i watch the extended LOtR versions every year at xmas time, and we are doing that the day before we see The Hobbit - i'm hoping that being in the right headspace will bring the majesty of The Hobbit with it

(Anonymous) 2012-12-22 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
don't see it in 3D. See it in Imax. And seriously don't basis your experience off what others say. I've found since I stopped giving a shit about what others say about movies I want to see the happier I am and the more I enjoy them. So stop looking at reviews and tune out secrets like this.

I've heard the 48fpm does take some used and makes things look fake. I saw it in 24fpm 3D and it was fine. And this is from someone who would rather watch a movie in 2D than 3D.

I hated the high frame rate, but I still enjoyed the movie.

And then I saw it again at the regular frame rate. XD

gollum's scene is worth the price of admission

NZ is absolutely breathtaking! in some parts, you feel like you are on the planet before humans messed with it, before pollution, before wars - it's stunning

Definitely this. You wish you can just own a magic doorway to the South Island where you can just roll in the fields without being watched by everyone. :)

It's a fantastic movie. And probably one of the most gorgeous ones I've ever seen. (Man, New Zealand is beautiful.)

lol...see above, i replied to the wrong person

[personal profile] atgdng 2012-12-22 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
There are definitely some slow parts, but I think it was good. Just don't go in expecting LOTRs, it's a different kind of movie, but not a worse one.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-22 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
don't fret. I know there are people who were bored, but I was literally NEVER EVER bored. Like, not even for a backstory-telling minute. Not once. And it's not just me either, so the scale definitely exists

go see what you think of it. Don't expect anything (except attractive dwarves) (and if you've read the book, some stuff that you remember and some you don't) and decide for yourself :D

Gollum was all different kinds of creepy, doused with creepy-sauce and wrapped in a creepy-bun. I was freaked out during his scenes.

I think the movie was lots of fun. Good script, good costumes, some hot dwarves, good special effects. My only complaint was Martin Freeman. He didn't play Bilbo any differently than he plays John Watson. I kind of got the impression that I was just watching him play himself.

"Gollum was all different kinds of creepy, doused with creepy-sauce and wrapped in a creepy-bun. I was freaked out during his scenes."

EXCELLENT, gollum has always been my fave :)

(Anonymous) 2012-12-22 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
NA - I like the LotR movies ok but can't stand any of Tolkien's books. But I LOVE Gollum and while I was a bit underwhelmed by The Hobbit because seemed more like a kid's movie than I had expected, Gollum made the entire movie worth it for me. You'll probably have a really great time because it sounds like you like the Middle Earth universe more than I do.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-22 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
I never really understood that complaint. I think Martin's Watson is much calmer and braver person than his Bilbo, and their situations in their respective stories are completely different.

[personal profile] iceyred 2012-12-22 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
The situations are different, but that's because of the writer and not the actor. I just felt like Bilbo had the same mannerisms, the same tone, the same frustration as Watson.

Still, we've got two more movies. He might grow into the role over the time and feel more comfortable with the character. If not well, I've got sexy dwarves to make up for it.

Martin Freeman has been playing the same role since Tim from The Office.

I really don't get how this doesn't bother the rest of the world.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-22 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
I gave up saying anything about it after he ruined HHGTTG because the world is love with him for some unfathomable reason.

Don't worry. I saw it in IMAX 3D, and it was epic and amazing. I'll be going to see it again in a few days, and I rarely ever see a movie twice in the theater since they are so darn expensive here.

that's good to hear :) i am pleased to have received so many replies from people who liked it (crisis that only ever existed in my brain - averted!)

[personal profile] rapunzelita 2012-12-22 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't worry. Personally I went there without any kind of expectations and I found it pretty rad. You perception might be different, but I find that not worrying about or anticipating a movie too much really helps get a clearer idea of whether you liked it or not. Usually I try to get into a DGAF mode before I see a movie, and it helps.

Besides... Don't worry too much about it. Even if you don't enjoy it, it's ok! You're allowed to. And if you do, well, that's great too :)

(Anonymous) 2012-12-22 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
It's a very long movie but there was never a point when I was bored.

Just make sure you go and pee immediately before. ...And don't buy a beverage at the theater. ...And maybe take it easy on fluids that day until after the movie.

[personal profile] adlanth 2012-12-22 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
I was worried when I first went to see it, and I didn't like it all... but then I watched it a second time, expecting to not like everything, and liked it better! So, well, don't worry in the first place. Probably.
