don't listen to the debbie downers. It's a great movie. It sounds like they really didn't want to be there anyways.

It's a fantastic movie. And probably one of the most gorgeous ones I've ever seen. (Man, New Zealand is beautiful.)

There are definitely some slow parts, but I think it was good. Just don't go in expecting LOTRs, it's a different kind of movie, but not a worse one.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-22 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
don't fret. I know there are people who were bored, but I was literally NEVER EVER bored. Like, not even for a backstory-telling minute. Not once. And it's not just me either, so the scale definitely exists

go see what you think of it. Don't expect anything (except attractive dwarves) (and if you've read the book, some stuff that you remember and some you don't) and decide for yourself :D

Gollum was all different kinds of creepy, doused with creepy-sauce and wrapped in a creepy-bun. I was freaked out during his scenes.

I think the movie was lots of fun. Good script, good costumes, some hot dwarves, good special effects. My only complaint was Martin Freeman. He didn't play Bilbo any differently than he plays John Watson. I kind of got the impression that I was just watching him play himself.

Don't worry. I saw it in IMAX 3D, and it was epic and amazing. I'll be going to see it again in a few days, and I rarely ever see a movie twice in the theater since they are so darn expensive here.

I wouldn't worry. Personally I went there without any kind of expectations and I found it pretty rad. You perception might be different, but I find that not worrying about or anticipating a movie too much really helps get a clearer idea of whether you liked it or not. Usually I try to get into a DGAF mode before I see a movie, and it helps.

Besides... Don't worry too much about it. Even if you don't enjoy it, it's ok! You're allowed to. And if you do, well, that's great too :)

(Anonymous) 2012-12-22 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
It's a very long movie but there was never a point when I was bored.

Just make sure you go and pee immediately before. ...And don't buy a beverage at the theater. ...And maybe take it easy on fluids that day until after the movie.

Maybe you'll like the other two more.

I don't even care. I've been waiting to finish my first semester of law school to be able to see this, AND NOW I CAN, and it could be dull as dirt and I'd still probably enjoy it.

You and everyone else. General consensus is that it's boring and the story is unnecessarily bloated.

lol. I loved The Hobbit.

Maybe that's because I never read the book?

I went through a Lord of the Rings phase in high school and read LOTR and the Silmarilion and all that. But I still could never get past the second chapter of The Hobbit, so yeah. Maybe I liked it because I didn't have many expectations while still be a fan of the general world in which it took place?

Well, to each their own. Personally, I loved it. The Orc King was hilarious, as were the trolls, and Smeagol was a perfect balance of creepy, funny and pitiful. Also, I want to party with dwarves.

That's okay anon. Personally I absolutely loved it, but it is okay to not like popular movies.

I saw it yesterday, and I've had the urge to re-watch the LOTR movies. I think I'm going to bring the dvds along on my eleven hour train ride on Tuesday.

I gotta kinda agree. It would have been better if it had been one movie, or split into two parts instead of three. Because I really loved several individual bits of it, but all together...the story was just very thin for a three-hour movie.

I guess it really depends on the person my friend fell asleep through most of it and I was really into the movie. I was in the edge of my seat in some parts.

Seriously, you were bored THE WHOLE TIME? I admit that the movie had lengths and could have used a bit of editing, but it also had a lot of excellent scenes that were really entertaining. I can't believe someone would find the ENTIRE movie boring.

i wasn't bored, but i wasn't invested, either. story, characters - nothing pinged my careometer. thranduil and galadriel piqued my interest for brief seconds, but that was about it.

i think i'm racist against hobbits and dwarves, tbh.

JP's world-building. We're seeing the entire reason why Sauron came back, why we need to destroy the Ring, why the Elves are leaving, every little thing is getting tied up.

It's beautiful, brilliant, and a love letter to Middle Earth.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-22 08:25 am (UTC)(link)
it sucked. I had the greatest expectations and I'm sorry but it was terrible.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-22 08:29 am (UTC)(link)
You know, the reason I didn't like it is because everything seemed really cartoonish, caricaturized, and overdone. PJ said he didn't want it to feel like a kids' movie... and man, it felt like a kids' movie. Ugh.
