The Karate Kid (Kung Fu Kid). I grew up watching the first and was not happy when they announced a remake was in the works, but when I finally saw it I loved it and thought it was just so much better than the original in so many ways.

Agreed. The stakes seem higher in the new one, even if the kid is younger, and I love how they used the setting to their max advantage, storytelling-wise.

Man I love that movie.

Pretty much agreed. Also about the stakes being higher, that made it stronger to me. I value each one for different reasons now. The classic is the classic, but the new one has a lot to offer.
