Gosh! I can see that this is really, really important to you! I'm sorry. I didn't realize that you were actually taking this seriously.

I wish that I could live a life such as yours, one so blissfully free of anything worth caring about that I could be upset about an actor not matching the description of a character in a children's book.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-22 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
LOL, I figured someone would pull that out when they no longer had any valid arguments left even though they're posting in the same argument on a site called FandomSecrets.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-22 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
...You do realize that they're not gonna remake the movies no matter how much you argue that one of the 13 dwarves doesn't look dwarven enough to you, right?

(Anonymous) 2012-12-22 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, but they will, don't you know? And even if they don't, then this person can sleep soundly in the knowledge that they presented Valid Arguments concerning the depiction of a fictional character in a book that only geeks care about.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-22 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
LMAO, because 90% of the people posting in this thread *don't* care about The Hobbit or Tolkien's works? Seriously, you can't argue about Tolkien's descriptions of dwarves and then pretend to act like "Oh, such things are beneath me."

(Anonymous) 2012-12-22 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
I argued about Tolkien's descriptions of dwarves? Huh, must have missed it.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-22 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
So you didn't at all post in this topic? How convenient.

If you're at all a fan of anything related to Tolkien, you aren't really in any position to call other fans 'geeks' without coming across like a hypocrite (unless just liking the movies makes you 'cooler'). And if you're not a fan, why are you posting in a thread related to his works?

(Anonymous) 2012-12-22 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
Simply liking something isn't the same as being a geek. A person can like wine without being a connoisseur, and a person can like a book without going through it with a fine-tooth comb and obsessing over pointless minutiae. A person can watch Star Trek without deciding that it's necessary to learn Klingon.

And why would someone post in a thread related to Tolkien's works? Maybe to piss off people like you.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-22 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
You just said that only geeks like The Hobbit/Lord of the Rings.

Unless, that too, was someone else.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-22 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
No. The depiction of a fictional character is something that only geeks care about. Poor wording is a vice.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-22 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
So apathy is the way to go?

(Anonymous) 2012-12-22 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
Why does that question make me want you to break into song?

(Anonymous) 2012-12-22 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
But you're also posting on a site called FandomSecrets. What makes your arguments any more rational?

(Anonymous) 2012-12-22 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
Let me repeat myself for people who have trouble with reading comprehension.

If you're posting in an argument about dwarves and Tolkien on FandomSecrets, you don't get to pull the "Oh, why do you care about such silly stuff?" when you run out of material without looking like a hypocrite. Because clearly if such stuff didn't matter to you, you wouldn't be posting on this thread.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-22 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, now people who disagree with you have trouble with reading comprehension! You are a master, sir or madame.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-22 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
Nope, just that person.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-22 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
So, that person is a master, and you are not? Why do you have such a poor view of yourself, anon?

(Anonymous) 2012-12-22 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
Surely you can come up with something better than that if you try hard enough.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-22 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
But how could I ever compete with your wit? Your rebuttal is so fresh and cutting, so utterly original, that I doubt anything could compare.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-22 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
Just close your eyes and think really hard, and I'm sure something will pop up.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-22 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think that what's popping up is precisely along the lines you had in mind.
