Well, before this the actor was known for his role as a broody vampire, so coming across as goth looking wouldn't be too surprising.

Kili has a rather fun, adventurous, almost bubbly personality though. I don't see how anyone thinks he looks like a broody anything...he's pretty much an agreeable dork. I mean, okay, in promos...whatever, but in the actual movie he's the opposite of that.

Oh I agree. Even though I've watched Being Human, the difference was so great I didn't even notice he was Aidan Turner until I looked at the cast listing. But if the only thing OP has seen is the promo pics, then I can definitely see how someone can look at them and label him as 'goth.'

I loved Aidan in Being Human, but yea, it's an entirely different role and Kili is definitely nothing like Mitchell. If all OP has seen are promo pics I'm wondering why this was worthy of making a secret about, tbh. Why not see the movie first, judge the performance then make the secret? (If they don't change their mind about him, of course.)

That's actually one of my favorite things about Kili, by his appearance you'd expect him to be the angsty broody one, but he totally isn't.

Sorry, OP, this man is too gorgeous for me to object to. Maybe if he looked ACTUALLY like, say, Legolas, I could see your point, but he's short and pretty hairy and that's enough for me.

I feel like there'd be fewer arguments about whether Kili looks like a dwarf or not if this was the main picture of him going around, because he really looks like a dwarf in it. (And yeah, it does sum him up perfectly.)
He's also adorable and I love him to bits and I just want to give him a hug. He seems like the type of guy who'd go around giving everybody awesome friendly hugs.

I think you're right. The promos do make him look ~flashy~and heart throb-ish, but I guess I've just learned to ignore them. They're seldom good representatives of what the person or character actually looks like.

I mean, yea, he's still a good looking dwarf, but look at that smile! He's such a huge adorable dork, so I have trouble taking all the “He looks like a model" comments seriously.

As for him looking like a dwarf or not... I guess that's still going to differ from person to person, but he certainly looks like a young, fresh faced dwarf to me. (Which is essentially what he is.)

And Kili would give great hugs. :)
