Re: Remakes that work?

The 1973 version of The Three Musketeers combined with the later film The Four Musketeers (which was actually the second half that came out like a year or two later). It had Oliver Reed, Michael York, Richard Chamberlain, Faye Dunaway, Charlton Heston, Raquel Welch, Christopher Lee, and Roy Kinnear in it. It is the only adaptation I've ever seen that kept the humorous elements from Dumas' works in it. D'Artagnan was perfectly portrayed as the Gascon who wants to join the Musketeers instead of the more popular and inaccurate portrayals where he is an equal or even worse, is the leader of the group. By the time The Four Musketeers starts, he is finally a part of the group (hence the name change for the film) and the others treat him equally but he is still very much their junior within the overall Musketeers. I wish Hollywood would stop trying to remake The Three Musketeers because it was already done perfectly almost 40 years ago.
