Can someone tell me what exactly happened?

Short version: a BNF Brony forced a teenage girl to perform oral sex on him, didn't even deny it when she came forward, resorting instead to all kinds of gross victim blaming behaviours, and then a bunch of other Bronies rallied around him, including sending harassing and threatening messages to the girl and her supporters. A lot of people see this as proof that the entire Brony subculture is nothing but a wretched hive of scum and villainy.

That's just the single (really gross and unforgivable) incident mentioned in the secret, though. There are also plenty of people who are disgusted with Brony culture because of the fact that Bronies have done things like rally around an ableist fan name for a character ("Derpy Hooves"), draw porn of the creator's Ponysona, and just generally act like a show for very young girls is meant to be all about the needs and desires of 20-something men without the fandom as a whole calling them out on it.

Ah, sorry if this sounds ignorant (because I'm not really very involved in fandom in general, let alone My Little Pony fandom), but why is drawing porn of the creator's Ponysona a bad thing? Isn't there basically porn of everything in EVERY fandom?

Also, sorry, what do you mean by "..and just generally act like a show for very young girls is meant to be all about the needs and desires of 20-something men"? Like, complaining when the show doesn't include things that men would want to see, type thing?

I don't really know why people complain about the Ponysona thing. I'm not active in the fandom at all, so I only hear these things second or third-hand, and like I said earlier, a lot of Brony haters don't like to clarify their reasoning.

About the other thing: Basically, yeah. What you said. Wanting the characters to be sexier/more romantically involved, whining that it isn't darker and more badass--just acting like the show is supposed to be *targeting* them instead of their viewership just being an arguable happy but unintended consequence of making a show for young girls that's actually good, for a change.

People complain about the ponysona thing because Faust specifically asked them to stop doing that and they kept doing it anyway. And I'd be fucking creeped out if I were her. That was one of the most disgusting incidents imo (not as bad as the actual rape incident(s), but other than that it's one of the worst ones I've heard of).

RE: your last paragraph: yes, but picture that with the most entitled attitude you can imagine, and with many bronies convinced that the show is not even for little girls/little children in the first place. vOv

I mean, I don't really think that his actions reflects on the entire brony subculture, but holy shit, what. So he actually ADMITTED to having raped her, and they still supported him? But why? I don't understand. Like, what excuse could they have possibly given for his behavior? Under what theory was this her fault? I just literally cannot think of a single reason for how or why this would have been her fault and not his. Am I missing something?

I only included the last link because you can actually see quite a few MLP fans having the same reaction you did, which is one of the reasons I think people generalizing to the entire fandom is kind of silly (in spite of the fact that I've never been active in it, myself). Also, in what world is victim blaming and standing behind rapists exclusive to Bronies. It would be *nice* if that were the case, but all you have to do is look at the Good Men Project kerfluffle and/or pretty much any highly publicized rape case (look at the comments here: http://www.denverpost.com/breakingnews/ci_22231503/judge-denver-cop-convicted-rape-free-bond-until, for example--even once the guy is convicted, plenty of people still want to believe the victim is a liar) to see that this shit is ubiquitous. I always feel like a lot of fandom just scapegoats Bronies because they don't want to admit that those of us who try to be decent are surrounded. :-(

That seems a little weird to me, yeah. I'm not sure why bronies are being specifically targeted as horrible rape apologists, because I'm pretty sure every single fandom has its share of those (though maybe not as widely publicized) - is everybody just supposed to stop participating in every fandom ever because some people are total assholes? I just don't understand what's going on in this thread. Maybe I'm just missing some crucial piece of information or something, because otherwise, this logic of "if you're a brony, then you're a rape apologist, and if you don't hate bronies, then you are a rape apologist too" that is happening here.
