I wonder if all the "You posted it on the internet! You must accept any criticism you are given, you must listen to my "advice" dammit!" ever feel they have the right to nitpick the clothing, and footwear choices of a stranger if they see them jogging down the street, because they didn't stay at home on the treadmill.

This is an interesting point. Usually it's considered very rude to give unsolicited concrit about somebody's appearance.

That's because there's a difference between walking out the door wearing something and posting photos of your outfit for the day on a site like tumblr or What I Wore Today. In the latter case, you should absolutely expect comments.

Posting fanfic on your own journal or on a site with comments disabled is like the former. Posting it on an open forum is like the latter.

Assume nobody is super interested in your detailed opinion until they give a clear indication that they do want it, it is not rocket science.
