Oh, it was whiny as hell. But that's not the least bit OOC for Ten; he whined about every damn thing. So I don't think it was unexpected or problematic. (Taking forever to actually go into the regeneration cycle, now, that was problematic. They could have found a better way to do the companion montage.)

Seriously, the Doctor is crap at regeneration and doesn't like doing it, totally aside from the massive physical damage & pain bit (which is probably worth a whine or two on its own). One waited until his body died of old age to do it, despite his incessant griping about being old. If Six had had the opportunity to be angsty and awful about his regeneration, he would've; it's only an artifact of the external circumstances that he didn't get the chance. And I'll bet dollars to doughnuts Eleven is going to be a pill about it, too, if it's not sudden.

We've seen two regenerations in Nu Who, and Nine was positively charming about it.

Newsflash:

New Who isn't the only Doctor Who continuity.

Huh.

Really?

My god...all this time I've been saying "new" Who assuming that "old" Who was like, the movie or something!

Ha ha, thanks for the news flash, dipshit anon, it's so enlightening!

Yeah, New Who is what is actually relevant when it comes to how the Doctor is being characterized, because it is completely removed from almost all of the values, themes, ideas, and portrayals of old Who.

Eleven wasn't a pill about actually dying (he had, like, one mopey moment that he immediately laughed at himself for when he realized Craig had fallen asleep while he was angsting), and he spent the entirety of the season 6 finale frantically begging River to kill him. So I have high hopes that he's not gonna be a pill about regenerating either.
