Also, could you have picked a show with less gun use by bad guys? The only time I can recall a good guy using a gun to hurt someone is John is S1E1. *stares into distance* I have not watched Sherlock in a while. I recall John having a gun in Hounds but not using it.

OMG that should say by 'good guys' not bad guys. /facepalm

Ikr? Sherlock is not a show that has gratuitous gun violence.

Should've gone with The Walking Dead if OP wanted to start gun wank. Now that would've been funny.

"gun wank"

Some of us have exotic kinks.

Heh. A gun kink is a legit kink. I've certainly had a gun wank or two.

Buuut if the nasty gun haters had their way then 'good guys' like John wouldn't be able to use his guns oh nooo.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-29 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
John shouldn't be able to use his gun, actually. Him having it is illegal.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-29 06:57 am (UTC)(link)
UGH THANK YOU

This totally pushed me out of the show the one time I watched it. Like, after watching it was like 'But....how does he have it? Why is everyone okay with this?"

(Anonymous) 2012-12-29 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
+1

Sherlock is, like, the worst possible fandom to use as an example here, John keeping his [illegal] gun is usually portrayed in the fandom as evidence that he still has psychological problems, not evidence that good guys should have guns.

There are plenty of fandoms that would be much much better examples.

He shoots the dog in Hounds. He also threatens the bike messenger guy in "The Great Game" and Sherlock points it at Moriarty in the same episode.

(Not trying to make a point or anything - just adding what I can remember.)

John also threatens the Gollum with it in The Great Game. "Let him go, or I will kill you."

I do agree with the original point though that Sherlock isn't a great example of the good guys saving the day with their big damn guns.

Golem, not Gollum--though now I'm giggling while imagining Gollum in the Planetarium fight.

LOLing forever at this image.

Just came back from watching The Hobbit again - so that slip was doubly confusing/amusing ;)

Guns in Sherlock are basically a metaphor for dicks.

Whenever there's a lot of sexual tension onscreen Moffat realises dicks would be inappropriate for television so someone pulls out a gun instead. No one ever shoots, they just wave them around and everyone gets excited.

Except when John shot the cabbie and Sherlock nearly came in his pants in response.

I may write a small essay on the subject ;)

I know I get excited when John waves his gun around (literally and as a metaphor for his penis). *leers at John Watson holding a gun* Yes. Guns. Mmmmm.

And when Sherlock is stretched out and bored and...

And when Sherlock is stretched out and bored and having to shoot his gun to entertain himself... XD

And when Sherlock pointed his gun at Moriarty because he was so happy to see him.

And Moriarty got so excited by Sherlock's presence that he put his own one in his mouth...

And all those voyeurs had their guns on Sherlock and John in that scene too.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-29 07:16 am (UTC)(link)
I love this comment the subsequent thread and the possibility of a fandom essay about penis guns.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-29 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
John used the gun to shoot the Hound. Twice.

Other than that, he used it a lot less in S2 than he did in S1.

If anyone in Sherlock is a poster child for lack of gun safety it's Sherlock who waves guns around, uses them to scratch his head, shoot the walls when bored and hold it to his best friends head. "I don't have to be careful, I've got a gun!"
