When I think of Sherlock, I don't exactly think of gratuitous gun use.

In any case, ignoring the political debate, this argument seems ridiculous to me. People watch all sorts of stuff where characters, even the heroes, do things they wouldn't approve of IRL. It's also possible to enjoy guns in a fictional context without being interested in them in reality.

America has a thriving gun culture which glorifies gun violence and the using gun violence for protection and retaliation. Nobody will have a conversation about the culture of violence because it's harder to see the flaws in yourself and your culture than it is to see the unfortunate results of those flaws.

Still, guns are a tool for killing and it shouldn't be as easy to obtain them. And we can't even have a real conversation about gun violence and the easy obtainability of guns because the derpers start screaming.

Get over yourself. Your friend's attitude mirrors 50% of the population.

Weapons are what cause gun crime, not violent TV. Sherlock was made in the UK, but because gun ownership is more restricted here, unlike America, the gun crime rate is A LOT lower.

I support gun ownership. Including the scary black guns with magazines and such. Even I think this is a stupid point. You might notice that most of the shows with good guys shooting guns paint the good guys as cops, for starters.

Aside: we had fucking slavery and the murder of native Americans. We had lynching. We beat up gay and trans kids. Women couldn't even vote until 1918. Anyone blaming America's culture of violence on the presence of GUNS as if getting rid of them would fix it is a moron. The country's full of millions of guns. Banning them doesn't eliminate them.

Unless you think banning cocaine totally keeps people from overdosing.

I find it interesting that this troll used a picture of Martin Freeman as Watson for this secret.

The gun laws in the UK are extremely strict. And the rates of death by gun violence are extremely low. (See below for numbers.) In the BBC Sherlock show, Watson having a gun is an anomaly, he makes a point of keeping it hidden because he's really not supposed to have it. The cabbie's gun in the very first episode is in fact a lighter. Almost all the guns we see on the show are held by criminals, held by heroes who have just stolen them from criminals, brandished by the morally dubious CIA agents who are definitely antagonists if not outright villains, and held by the soldiers in John's war flashback dreams.
Even the police are seldom seen carry guns, the only time I can think of is when Lestrade is "off the grid" hunting the Hound, and he presumably has a license to carry it.
