And exactly why I'd never watch. Just think of all the guys getting off on it makes me sick. And to think humanity without societal constraints would reduce itself to this. The boys would be ecstatic.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-29 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
But how does thinking about all the girls getting off on it make you feel?

(Anonymous) 2012-12-29 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
But don't y'know, there's NEVER been a case of girls raping or molesting someone. EVER.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-29 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
So the women who watch this get off on watching other women get raped and violated? Good to know.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-29 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
And there's also never been a female with a rape kink. NEVAR.

It actually really, really bothers me when people try to say that female-perpetrated sexual assault does not exist, or shouldn't be as important as male-perpetrated sexual assault because it isn't as common. Almost nothing pisses me off more (other than people who try to blame victims for their own sexual assault, and people who try to trivialize mental illnesses).

(Anonymous) 2012-12-29 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
>This is what feminists actually believe

(Anonymous) 2012-12-29 11:21 am (UTC)(link)
*eye rolls* Only if you're listening to the straw-feminists. It's rather common among feminist conversations to mention the important role of men as allies when it comes to combating rape and rape culture. Not the "men, don't rape" sense but "hey guys, here's how to be aware of misogyny/slut shaming/rape culture/etc and things you can do to stand against it."

Try talking to actual feminists (their are even men who are, not just women) and ignore the popularized and bastardized tripe.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-29 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
Damn straight. The only thing stopping me from whipping out my dick and going on a wild raping spree is because the law says not to.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-29 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
You can't tell me that if you were raised in a society where rape was accepted as the norm for males in forced marriage and war situations, you and many of your present-day brethren wouldn't partake. Human nature is what it is.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-29 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
And you can't tell me that women wouldn't do the same thing if they lived in such a society. Men tend to hold the power so they abuse it, but don't even pretend that if women held power they wouldn't wield it as well.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-29 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
What society, in the history of the world, has had the women in power raping men? I'm not talking about your fantasy bondage land.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-29 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
I'm saying IF. There's not a lot of cases where women would be able to, obviously. But there are numerous examples of women raping or sexually abusing men, so you can't pretend that a woman would or could not rape someone.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-29 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
What, exactly, is your point? The original point is that men in a society that condones and intstitutionalizes rape will most likely rape. Not that women in some fictional Amazonian society will rape men. They probably would. But it's never going to be a reality. A culture that tolerates rape is and has been many times over. Romanticising the mindset on a TV show is what is happening on GoT making it easier to watch and fantasize about. I have no doubts at all that many more men than will admit would rape Dany if they had cultural sanction to do so.

This. Thank you.

nayrt
you: WHAT IF THIS
ayrt: WELL WHAT IF THAT
you: DOESN'T COUNT IT'S NOT WHAT I SAID DODGE QUESTION DODGE QUESTION
Seriously, as a woman and a firm believer in gender equality, it always pisses me off when people act like women are perfect angels who never have and never would be abusers. Have we had less chance and power to do so, historically speaking? Yes. Have we NEVER done it? Of course we have. Would we do it more often if our culture made it acceptable for women to be abusive as a matter of course? Of course, because power corrupts no matter who holds it.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-29 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
They did dodge the question and tried to turn it around to some fantastical scenario that has nothing to do with reality.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-29 05:34 pm (UTC)(link)
can't tell if you're anon i replied to or not...if you are, then try reading my comment or something, good grief

Agreed.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-29 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
Actually they don't. Matriarchies do exist though they are uncommon. They went unrecognized for a long time because people kept looking for Amazon country and didn't recognize the communal reality of what those societies were actually like. Matriarchy is not the simple gender flip of patriarchy, it turns out.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-29 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
This.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-29 10:07 am (UTC)(link)
Men are likely to rape if boys and girls alike are taught that it is acceptable behaviour; i.e., if society accepts rape. Some might not, but most will. Consider the South African statistics (from the sexual violence in SA wikipedia article): A 2009 survey found one in four South African men from KwaZulu-Natal and Eastern Cape Provinces admitted to raping someone. And that's just those who admitted it! Nearly three out of four men who admitted rape stated they had first forced a woman or girl into sex before the age of 20, and nearly one in ten admitted doing so before the age of 10.

Most modern men have had it inculcated in them that women are human beings, that consent is important, from earliest childhood. Women are also taught that they have value. I think a lot of people don't realise how much of this is learned behaviour. If rape is a trivial matter in society, and women are viewed by most men as chattel, then yes, most men will rape, and if it is considered a crime, it will only be to the men who own her.

People who say things like "men aren't animals!" seem to forget that all humans are, in fact, animals; there are animals that rape.

Of course women rape, too. If the situations were exactly reversed, I don't doubt that most women would rape and consider it trivial.

People here seem to have a very optimistic view of human nature. We've progressed very far to get to the point we are at now, and we have a long way to go yet. We might even get there eventually if we aren't all wiped out first.

This is a good comment.
