so about a month ago I lent out a game to a friend, expecting him to finish it in about a week since it really isn't that long of a game. He has work, plus he had it during finals week, so I've been trying to be really lenient on him. But I've been having these little anxiety attacks and it's getting to the point I just want my game back. I feel horrible bothering him about it though since it's christmas break so he's probably been spending time with family as well as juggling work. I don't want to be an asshole but it's really bothering me, so should I suck it up and try to endure another week or ask for it back?

Go halfway: ask him if he's had time to play through it and how much longer he thinks he might have it? You can always tell him that you've been wanting to play it through again just so you have a kinder-sounding excuse than just wanting your property back (which I totally understand, btw, I'm just saying - some people get offended if you insinuate that you don't trust them to give you your stuff back).

I'd follow the above anon's advice as soon as possible, because -- and I hate to be so cynical -- the longer you let the issue slide, the more likely it will be that you'll never see the game again. I know from personal experience! The people who still have my games (I hope) are normally kind and conscientious, but it kept on slipping their minds to return the discs, so in the end they never returned them at all. Your friend just needs a reminder, that's all.

Definitely this. There's definitely a point, at borrowing something, where you just kind of forget that you have it and that it's borrowed and it needs to be given back, and also where it just becomes so far in the past that it almost becomes weird to give it back. I've been on both ends of this - I still have some things that I borrowed back in the day, I've lost some things for good that I loaned away - and it doesn't bother me much, but yeah, just give a quick, light, low-pressure sort of a poke.

i too second the first anon's suggestion

let me just say: i've been exactly in your position, i didn't have the finesses to ask or it back "the right way" (after months and months of false promises), and ended up ruining a friendship :(

(but i got my fucking final fantasy vii cds back, the fuck i was gonna let them go)
