Considering that Sesshomaru hates all humans (except for Rin), and IIRC he never showed any inclination for caring about Kagome (except as an extension of what she could do for Rin), your analysis that Inuyasha would treat her better is pretty spot on.

Like, it always made me laugh when people would go on an on about how Sesshy would be a ~perfect ~gentleman to Kagome. I mean, really? Maybe if she was secretly a youkai, but even then, Sesshomaru has standards.

He's like Darcy from P&P (which probably explains a lot of the shipping to be fair) if Darcy's only redeeming quality was that he cared for a human child, but he still hated everyone else.

(note, I haven't read the series in a couple of years, so it's completely possible I'm missing/forgetting something.)

(And, granted, by the end of the series, I think Sesshy had become less of a human-hating assbutt, but I don't think it would ever be enough to fall in love with a human, though admittedly, that bit's just my headcanon.) /shrug

Yeah, this pairing baffled me too. It makes no sense outside of fangirls projecting into Kagome's role.

And yet it was like the most popular pairing in the fandom, or second most, or maybe tied with InuYasha/Kagome.

At least with, say, Rin, squicky as it was, he did care about her, and you could make an argument for Kagura too. Kagome, though? He was indifferent about her, at best, murderous, at worst.

Yeah, while Rin/Sesshy always creeped me out, at least in a weird/gross (IMO) way it made sense.

That's actually the P&P I grew up on, and I don't actually think that Sesshy is like Darcy at all, I was just commenting on the fact that I could see fangirls projecting Darcy onto Sesshy, and assuming that they're very alike, when they're really not.

Also, if you're going to mock me by posting pictures of Firth!Darcy, you should at least have the decency to post the right picture of him, I mean, come on.

Sesshoumaru's arc is about NOT hating humans and instead valuing life. And he actually does grow. So, IDK. Rin definitely changed his perspective--enough for his own mother to revive her.

While that is true, I can't really see Sesshomaru at the end actually deigning to fall in love with a human being- there's a huge difference between not hating/tolerating and falling in love IMO.

out of all the terrible clichés coming out of inuyasha fanfiction the knot was surprisingly not one of them

(kagome being turned into hanyou, sprouting dog ears like inuyasha; youkai's "marking" their mates with bites, etc. were the fandom winners)

man, i remember when i was like twelve years old and yaoi fics like sesshoumaru/inuyasha and inuyasha/naraku grossed me out

i was all, ew, why

i didn't get slash at all

anyway, op, i think i've only ever liked one sesshoumaru/kagome fic, ever, but it had to do a lot of ooc-ness/character development to make it work

also, i was twelve when i read it, so it probably actually sucked and i just didn't realize it

it was, after all, a time when i read every single fic i saw

every. single. one.

The problem with Sesh/Kag is that there's absolutely no canon basis for it, so the author has to make it all up from scratch. As with all of these pairings, this means there's a miniscule number of authors that actually manage to pull it off, a few hilarious crackship fics (and K/S truly is crackship) and a huge majority of "Plot? Characters? Who cares? I just want to write a story about someone who looks as pretty as Sesshomaru hooking up with someone," and it's just a mess of terrible dialogue and awful OOC.

Never read a convincing Sess/Kag fic myself (I just can't see their relationship past him inevitably slapping her unconscious), but the writing could be pretty epic sometimes, and some of the fanart for them was fabulous.

'The House of The Moon' was pretty decent, on account of taking half a novel to go from 'not going to kill each other' to 'Romance.' But yeah, pretty much there's no canon for it.

The original series' availability on Hulu, plus the English translation/availability of Inuyasha: the Final Act as of last month, probably has something to do with it.
