OP of #2
(Anonymous) 2007-08-25 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)And you're right, yaoi fans are far from oppressed. However I find that there is a huge difference between yaoi fanbrats and het fanbrats. Yaoi fanbrats mainly just squee over their OTP which yeah gets annoying but most of them don't go around insulting other pairngs
unless they're CLAMP fans. The het fanbrats really do go around telling yaoi fans that their ships "normal" and "have a better chance at being canon".Re: OP of #2
Another characterization of the yaori fanbrats is either bashing any and all female characters or just make them non-factors and ignore their exisistance.
I agree that, over all, a fanbrat of any kind is really obnoxious and would infruriate any sane fan. I totally understand where you're coming from.

Re: OP of #2
You know what? I've had yaoi "fanbrats" tell me that by shipping a particular het pairing(not even loudly), I'm rejecting the entire fandom. Because they were that convinced that their yaoi pairing was (or, rather should be) canon.
However, that was a small group of people, and I don't hold that example up as the "real face" of yaoi fans. It was just an unpleasant experience.
You'll find that most people aren't so easily generalized. Most people aren't just "het fans" or "yaoi fans" or "yuri fans"; they like a little bit of everything.
tl;dr: I'm sorry you've had a bad experience, but don't group everyone together like that. That's not fair.
