I agree. I get pretty annoyed with people who go out of their way to say mean stuff just to be "edgy" at my fandom, but I've learned that I have to ignore it. The few times I've called some people out it mostly resulted into a huge fight where people were drawing lines in the dirt and picking sides. When my fandom was beginning to die down, I recall one particular girl who was shitting all over anything and everything and I told her she needed to calm the eff down and have some manners, and the only reason no one had called her out was because they didn't want drama, and she replied with, "LOL JUST THE INTERNET WHY SO SRS LOL". Yes, it's just the internet, so why does everyone feel like they have a right to be dickholes behind the computer?

There was that secret a little while ago (maybe yesterday? not sure) about shipping characters from the Hobbit just to piss purists off.

And somebody made a comment about there having been moments in the movie where they just went, "...Now kiss."

And that was okay, you know, ship and let ship. I figured I wouldn't see any of it, though, unless my slash goggles were welded to my face, both because I skimmed most of the discussion and because I tend to not pick up on stuff like that unless it's pointed out to me.

I wish I had an article on hand, but I def remember something saying that upwards of 90 fucking % of Japanese gay people kill themselves because, while Japanese culture isn't the bastion of religiousity that the US is, it's still very damaging to not be the norm because of the group-centered culture (and I imagine the statistics for trans/non-gender-binary folk are as bad, if not worse).

I mean, I can get that having your sexuality being considered weird is "better" than being told you're going to hell for it (shit, I know I'd take the former over the latter most any day, christly fuck), but it's still problematic, if in a different way.

I don't think so. It seems too subtle for trolling, and I've heard of other people with the same body hate issues.

My goal is to get better. And maybe draw and read more. I've got a mountain of books to get through, but it's been kind of hard to get back into the groove of reading without my mind wandering off every few minutes.
