NGL, that's one of the things I like least about anime and manga -- the assertion that very childlike innocence is sexy. It hits my shota/loli squick something fierce.

It wouldn't bother me so much if it were treated as some kind of fetish or kink, but it's not. It's treated like it's completely normal and wholesome! And it's everywhere. All the protagonists are aged down to the point of absurdity then foisted into roles where they are treated like adults. Even in the most innocent of manga and anime it's hard to find a protagonist who doesn't look and act like a preteen. And even when they are adults, they are still drawn and behave as though they are little kids. It's like it's just accepted that 10 year olds are ripe for fucking and fighting -- which, wtf, no!

One of the reasons I switched to western fandoms is that even when the characters are supposedly kids, they look like adults (because the actors usually are).

uhm...

what the fuck are you talking about...?

OP mentioned Anise being a moe, this person commented about the current moe trend in anime/manga now (I think?)

Though Anise isn't supposed to be moe, from what I remember, so I don't know. :X

I know people sometimes harp on that but I love it. It works really well for humor based animations (Home Movies, for example)

You aren't making any sense. It's bad for adults to look younger, but it's totally okay for kids to look like adults? Give me characters who are legal but look younger any day, I'd rather that than characters who are actually underage but meant to look older. THAT is squicky.

Yeah, no. An adult who looks and acts identically to a 10 year old -- I can't see them as anything but 10. I can't ship them. Not sexy. I'm attracted to grown ups exclusively. A twenty year old who playing a 17 year old doesn't hit the same squick.

An adult who looks and acts younger is still an adult. A kid that looks older is still a kid.

Pretty hypocritical to say you dislike the former but are a-ok with the latter.

Exactly the same logic when they casted Sue Lyon for Dolores in the first Lolita film. Instead of the logic of "hey, how about let's pick a young looking adult, let's go for an old looking kid to pass the censorship AND make it fappable?"

Needless to say, Lyon was fucked for life and I don't care how uncool this opinion is but the first Lolita film was just goddamn awful.

It's the Japanese version of a manic pixie dream girl. Grown single women can and do play it up that way there sometimes, young and bubbly to the XTREME.
