Why do people feel the need to "ship" every goddamn thing? Not every two or more people who interact in any way need to be fucking each other. Especially not that stupid-mustache ugly guy.

Well if that's how you feel, I'd steer clear of Tumblr my friend.

I don't think it's something they consciously decide to do.

I mean at least this scene had subtext already there, just because you don't approve of it doesn't mean there wasn't any reason at all to ship it. If you really wanna feel icky, just think that in the time period of the movie, that couple could actually be a thing and nobody would think it was all that strange.

It was a great scene just the way it was. All the actors really nailed it for that one.

They really did. Like they did for the whole movie. But they had great material to work with, I think. (Everybody read the book, it's so good, and the Coen Brothers adaptation is faithful to an almost astonishing degree) (seriously read the book and also everything else Charles Portis ever wrote)

Eh you need to consider the historical period in which the film was set, the age difference was perfectly okay back then.

Yeah but does that mean that it's okay for us to want it to be more explicit, now, today?

I'm glad it didn't happen, and not just cause he's young, but here's why:

Because she's a kick-ass female character, without being all-powerful or without flaws. She's incredibly brave and determined for a girl her age, and I loved that they didn't need to have a romantic subplot that would have weakened the story.

Also I love, love, love that at the end of the film, she says that she never had kids and never married - not because she was undesirable - but because her life was full and she was too busy doing other things.

OP, this is a beautiful fic about these two, but it's only rated Teen and up. I haven't seen the film and I'm not in the fandom, but I bookmarked it some time ago after loving it.

A lot of the way through the movie I thought there would be a scene at the end where it turned out they'd gotten married when she got older. I don't mind that they didn't, though, I think she's fierce as she is.

I was thinking the same thing during this scene, but I really shipped Mattie/Cogburn. I came out of the movie thinking that she never married because she could never find anyone she felt as deeply about as Cogburn.
