If it makes you feel any better from a total stranger, I got to go to Malaysia last year and fell totally in love with it. I loved the water and the mountains and the people and the culture (Muslim and Buddhist and tribal all together, how cool). The Islamic Arts Museum in Kuala Lumpur is one of my favorite places in the world, and so is the Maritime Museum in Malaka.

I think it's more interesting than Japan.

16: I know where Malaysia is, and WORD. Personally, I think weeaboo and wapanese are thrown around way too much. Yes, there are some creepy people who objectify and fetishize anything to do with Japan, but just because they exist doesn't make EVERYONE, even those who heavily ID with Japanese cultural ideas and want to live there, a weeaboo.

I hope no one's offended at the comparison but here goes:

I find the piling in of admirers, expats, fans, and everyone who as much as likes anime and manga and Japanese food or who thinks Masi Oka and Gackt are sexiness personified in their own ways as "weeaboo" or "wapanese," along with those who are truly uninformed, scary, and obsessive quite annoying. It's very much like people who pile everyone from the truly transgendered to men or women who vary just a little on gender roles in with the stereotypical drag queens and such.

There's a wide range of variance, and some are not just on the same contimum, but in an entirely different sphere of experience, and "weeaboo" and "wapanese" are often used as a pseudo-racist insult aimed at people solely for being appreciative of another culture.
