Can we talk about how the intense werewolf dude is super creepy? Because seriously. I saw two episodes and the rapey, controlling-alpha-male vibes I

...fucking wifi acting up. Anyway. Derek or whatever. He's creepy.

Derek's creeper nature is most of his appeal, tbh.

But people complain about the Nice Guy because...? Or about Twilight, for that matter? Because hey, maybe at some point of the show everything changes and Derek becomes this super nice dude who respects peoples boundaries and stuff, but from what little I've seen, he's not much better than Edward.

Because the nice guy isn't shown in show as being creepy as fuck, his behavior is generally treated as cute. There are some people who woobify Derek and gloss over his creepiness, but most people recognize said creepiness as being fucking creepy and highly inappropriate. He's also not the most popular person in the show as a result of his behavior, and rightly so. The dude isn't really Mr. Popularity. Also, Derek's creeper nature is not shown as being romantic in the show or some sign of his ~deeper love~ for anyone (since he's not romantically involved with anyone in canon) and Edward's behavior is. It's shown as him being creepy, having no general clue about appropriate behavior, using intimidation tactics to get what he wants because he has very little clue how to go about things in any other way and also being utterly shitty at human interaction.

Because his creepiness is directed at guys and not a girl. Slash fandom interprets it as true love and doesn't see the double standard.

Derek is a completely different story because 1) he's not romantically involved with anyone in the show, and 2) the show tends to portray him as Scott's antagonist, not a good guy.

Derek is popular in fandom because of the intense brooding thing and because of his insanely tragic backstory (family burned to death by the woman he got involved with, sister killed by insane uncle, captured, tortured, and sexually assaulted by same woman who killed his family.....yeah). If fandom is going to woobify a character like Loki, who at least in the MCU doesn't have a tenth of that kind of angst in his background, what do you think they're going to do with a character like Derek?

Where are you getting "rapey" from? The scene with Erica may have been creepy, but it didn't say rape to me. And that's the only scene I can possibly think of that would even come close.
