Most of the people I've come across in fandom don't condone or enjoy Jackson's behaviour toward Lydia at all. Jackson and Lydia are actually my favorite characters and I think their relationship is an interesting one, but I also think it's extremely unhealthy and I do not want them to get back together at all. Not that that's a problem so much anymore with Colton leaving the show, but still.

I think the reason why the criticisms of Stiles' behaviour seem more prevalent is because the way Jackson acts is for the most part shown as being shitty in the show, as well, but the way Stiles acts toward her is generally passed off as "quirky" or cute.

All of this. Maybe because the Stiles 'Nice Guy' thing was recent in F!S OP got that impression? In other parts of fandom though I've seen more about how awful it would've been if the writers got Jackson and Lydia together again.

Yeah this. Stiles is far more popular than Jackson in the first place, so some of it is a backlash against the Stiles popularity, kind of a "look guys he's really not that great" thing.

And there are those fans on Tumblr (I've seen them myself) who do genuinely think that Stiles' behavior toward Lydia is cute and romantic and she should totally love him because of how much he adores her. So some of it is reaction toward that also.

There are plenty of people who acknowledge Jackson's behavior. But if he's a jackass, Lydia can be a right bitch just as much. They treat each other equally as bad, deserve each other, and Lydia went back to him knowing full well what he's like.

Refresh my memory -- what did Lydia do to Jackson? It's been awhile since I've seen the show, and all I remember is him screaming at her in the school hallway and making her cry. Did she do anything comparable to him?

I assume that Jackson is going to have a redemption arc in season 3 and the writers always planned to do that, because otherwise yes, he is a creepy loser and I don't know why ANYONE is even friends with him, especially Danny, who seems rather bright otherwise.

Jackson's actor quit, so I guess they are going to just write him out of the show now. Go to military school, backpack in Europe, get run over by a car... Whatever it's going to be, it will probably just be mentioned in one sentence and then forgotten completely.

I think it's less an "Assholes get all the girls" thing with Jackson, and more of a "The hotter you are, the more chicks are willing to put up with your bullshit" thing. Jackson, for all his many, many, many flaws is one prime piece of masculine ass.

People think this about Stiles?

How does that factor in? Because part of the "nice guy" syndrome is being nice in the hopes the girl will turn around and be all "Oh my god, you are so nice to me, let's have sex now and I'll be your trophy girl friend!" But Stiles does make it clear he wants to date Lydia. And he doesn't expect anything back from her.

Honestly, at this point I'm more afraid that, now that Jackson is being written out of the show, they'll "reward" Stiles with her. I really, honestly think Lydia and Stiles could turn into evil, ass-kicking besties, but I don't think a romantic relationship between the two of them would be very healthy.

Stiles can be super awkward with Lydia, no doubt, but fandom makes it sound like he hangs around her bedroom window or video tapes her taking a shower or something. He's a stupid teen doing stupid shit for the girl he's crushed on since forever. He hasn't been rewarded for it yet and hopefully the show doesn't attempt to make Stiles/Lydia a real thing.

Kind of OT, but am I the only one who doesn't find Jackson/Colton Haynes (sorry, dude) at all attractive? He has all the appeal of a plastic Ken doll to me.

Part of it, I think, is that in S2 it's hard to tell how much of Jackson's bad behavior is actually Jackson and how much is kanima/Matt. The nearer we get to the end of the season, there's definitely the sense that even the times when Jackson looks human, it's mostly Matt looking out through those eyes (even before we knew was in control) and Jackson is only having brief moments where he resurfaces and has full control (like the moment where Lydia touches him in the hall - he kind of looks like he's coming out of a bad dream for just a second).

Also, part of it may be sympathy for a guy who may been a jerk but didn't deserve having his body taken over and used to do horrible things.

And part of it just has to do with the genuine fear that now that Colton has left the show, Stiles will indeed be "rewarded" by having him get together with Lydia. Jeff Davis does seem to have a thing for Stiles/Lydia - I don't know where the link is, but in one interview he said that Stiles was originally supposed to get with Erica in S2, but that they didn't end up going that direction because they liked the chemistry between Stiles and Lydia better. But he's also apparently said that Stiles and Lydia are only going to be friends in S3, so...*shrugs* I don't know.

I do think from Lydia's side, the storyline was problematic. We never got any real resolution on her own issues of being tormented by Peter - she just got used as the key to Jackson's salvation. The finale had a lot of issues, and that was definitely one of them.

I get where the OP is coming from, but I have to admit, I was unsettled by the scene in Stiles' bedroom with all the expensive gifts (especially the TV), in a way that I hadn't been by Stiles/Lydia up until that point. Maybe it was because the scene was so serious in contrast to the other scenes where Stiles' crush is presented as somewhat humorous. But there was definitely the feeling when looking at all those gifts..."er ok, this is a little beyond a normal teenage boy crush". (And also the thought of how did he pay for all of that?)

Nope Jackson's an asshole to Lydia. I'm totally wtf at them playing it off as 'true love'. I mean I guess it could have happened if they got into the fact that their relationship was messed up but there were good moments too, but that doesn't mean they should stick with each other. And there were times I thought the writers were trying to say that, but it just didn't play out well.

Stiles I think is a lot better, but he's still treading the line of being a creeper. He's obsessive but won't actually talk to her like a person part of time.

I'm really not crazy about either being a relationship as it stands. I could get behind Stiles/Lydia, but only if they both do some growing first.

I think the difference is that Jackson is SUPPOSED to be an asshole and we're supposed to think that his behavior is crappy, while we're supposed to like Stiles and not criticize his behavior as much as Jackson's. It's kinda like the difference between the villain doing something bad and the hero doing something bad. One is normal, the other isn't.

I found Jackson abhorrent with the way he treated Lydia. I could not STAND him when he was in scenes with Lydia. I think the coding of the show makes a big deal to me too, because they act like Stiles deserves Lydia, whereas they play it in a way that Lydia wants Jackson.

This is one of the shows where the sexism is so prevalent that I wouldn't get to have any fun with it if I didn't just leave the males' shitty comments/behavior at the buffet and take away the hotness and adorableness on my very-casual-TW-fan plate.
