I liked Firefly for what it was, but in the end, after hearing various things about what Joss was planning to do with the show, I'm glad it ended where it did.

(Dollhouse, however, I wish had had more time to really unfold at a reasonable pace.)

+1 About Dollhouse, we saw a finale that skipped over years of character development that I really wish we could have gotten to see (I still liked the finale it just made me sad I didn't get to see all that.) I had friends tell me they thought Dollhouse went as long as it could have but I really disagreed.

+2 Dollhouse, totally agreed. Joss had a grand vision, man, and for once it was cognizant of all its weirdo issues.

Same here. I'd rather have a show with great potential cut down in its prime than have it peter out into, "Oh... oh. Umm... yeah... no."

Or if it had continued, we sure wouldn't be hearing the oh-so-great martyrlicious things we do now. It'd be more like, "Oh remember season one? Yeah. I really miss season one." (Case in point: Downton Abbey.)

I agree about Dollhouse so hard. I'd have love to at least see a full 3 seasons, even if the two we got were great.

(Oddly enough I just recently bought Firefly and Dollhouse blurays before Christmas. Bless Amazon and its crazy Joss Whedon sale. <3)

Holy shit there are other people who like Dollhouse. All I heard while it was running is 'this show is blatant Joss Whedon fanservice.'

The premise of it was so interesting, the plots were cool, and everyone but the dolls were assholes. (And some of them sometimes too.) Man I miss Dollhouse.

Dollhouse is my second favorite Whedon show, after Buffy (nothing can ever replace Buffy in my heart).

I think it had a lot of great ideas and asked really good questions about identity and that kind of stuff. And it had some really exciting plots too. It does seem a bit rushed in places, but that is clearly because the show was always on the brink of cancellation and they wanted to get through as much of the story as possible.

There are definitely fans but I know what you mean, before whenever I used to bring it up online all I'd get back is comments along the lines of, "Ew it's so exploitative!" But I feel like people were not getting the point of the series. And as you said it's not like these people were treated as if they were good guys, the series is definitely one of Whedon's darker pieces and it goes a lot into what is morality and what is a soul.

I loved Dollhouse, I could have used another season or two.

There's a nice little fandom on LJ! Although now I wonder if it might bloom up here on DW given the chance...

Agreed, on both points. I love Firefly. A lot. (as indicated by the username) But there were certain things leaked about where it was going that could've destroyed my love for the show entirely so I'm beyond happy they never made it to the screen. And Dollhouse...*foreverbitter* we didn't get to see things play out more. Like the Boyd reveal. That could've been SO good but it was SO rushed that I didn't even care. And I would've loved seeing the start of the apocalypse and why certain characters made the decisions they did.
