X-Files Nostalgia

What's your favorite episode, F!S? Mine is Paper Hearts.

Also, when I discovered that Mulder/Scully is now known in some places as "The Mothership", my mind was blown by how many levels that worked on. (Uh, like, three, I guess.)

I thought episode with the Cher-loving mutant guy was sort of cute. ( If one disregard his "having his way with unconcious women and impregnating them"-"habits.)

I don't know the name, but the episode with the glowing green bugs out in the woods? That's kind of vague, I know. But it was the first episode I can remember watching and liking and the one that really hooked my interest into the series. It's not the best episode, but I always remember/watch it with fondness.

The one where their lives depended on having a lightsource to ward off the creepycrawlies, right? That one was scary.

This was also the first episode I can remember, because for some reason my elementary school had a copy of the novelization of that episode in the school library, and reading that was my first introduction to the X-Files, well before I actually watched any of the show.

Maybe a weird choice but I love "Home" because it still manages to massively creep me out every time I watch it. I flinch every time I see that poor deputy (he was a deputy right? I can't quite remember) get decapitated. And that scene where they murder the sheriff and his wife with that song playing in the background omg

Edit: I really liked the episode "Kaddish" too. Ngl, I bawled while I was watching it. Same with Memento Mori. In general, I think season four was one of my favorites

I've actually been watching it for the first time over the last year or so, I'm just starting season 5 (I'm a very slow watcher, sue me). And I absolutely love it, and it's really weird to me that I never watched it as a kid since I was obsessed with all the supernatural stuff and the conspiracy stuff as long as I can remember. I think I was just too much of a scaredy-cat as a kid.

So far, my favorite episode is Clyde Bruckman's Last Repose, which is also maybe my favorite episode of television ever. The whole tone of the episode is just completely perfect, it's dark and humorous and just wonderful. I'll also mention Musings of a CSM which I really liked, even if it is a little silly.

I too am watching X-files for the first time, and it has taken me three years to get to season nine, LOL. You're not the only slow watcher.

Clyde Bruckman is another favorite of mine. I agree with all your comments.

The Field Where I Died from season four. I've got a soft spot for reincarnation stories.

Oh, man, I love so many episodes of The X-Files.

I agree with Paper Hearts.

But I also love love love Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose and Jose Chung's From Outer Space, and Irresistible, and Pusher (ohhhh, Pusher), and Wetwired, and Small Potatoes, and Christmas Carol, and Triangle, and Dreamland I and II, and The Unnatural, and X-Cops(!!!!), and First Person Shooter, and Humbug, and....

Yeah. I really love The X-Files.

Ohhhh Dreamland I and II!!! Those episodes were some of the hardest I've ever squeed.

I love the X-Files so much too, and I think one of the biggest reasons I love it is just how many near-perfect brilliant episodes it had.

Jose Chung's 'From Outer Space'.

Actually, that might be my single favorite hour of television from any show ever.

Edit: wait, wait, I just have to add a honorable mention: The Unnatural. Jose Chung is my favorite episode, but The Unnatural made me honest-to-god physically cry (rare for me) and is dear and close and precious to my heart and makes my mind boggle in sheer wonder and joy in ways I can never finish explaining.

It's so crazy to me that one guy wrote both Clyde Bruckman's Last Repose and Jose Chung's From Outer Space in one season. I kind of prefer Clyde Bruckman, but they're both incredibly good hours of television. People sometimes wonder why Darin Morgan never really did much in the rest of his career. I prefer to think that he just wakes up every day and says, "Fuck it, I wrote Jose Chung and Clyde Bruckman, I have nothing left to prove."

The one with the carnival freak show people. "Must have been something I ate" became a running gag between me and my dad for YEARS.

Bad Blood. I love the whole dual perspective and how Luke Wilson changes from a dream boat to a bucktooth hick depending on the POV.

Home, because that is some freaky shit. That moment where the limbless matriarch rolls out from under the bed on her little slat with wheel. Oh lord that still gives me the heebeejeebees.

Unusual Suspects: the Lone Gunmen rock.

X-Cops: I really like the way this ep was filmed (as if it was actually an ep of Cops)

Closure: that scene with Moby's "My Weakness" playing over it where Mulder finds out what happened to Samantha

I also really liked the one where the baseball player is an alien and one with a prisoner named Neech, I think, who could somehow get out of his cell and his people

Bad Blood was great. I loved how the typey-text across the bottom of the screen backspaced and re-wrote itself when Mulder corrected Scully on the name of their motel.

Like an above user, I really liked the majority of season 4. I enjoyed the episodes they mentioned but another one I REALLY liked was Unrequited. That one just killed me (I was mess, seriously). It just struck me as being so damn sad.

I liked "Ice" from Season 1, "Tunguska/Terma" (because there's a special place in my heart for Russian!Krycek), and "Bad Blood." Also "Dreamland I/II" and... the Groundhog Day episode... "Monday"? Others too, obviously, but those are the ones I can think of offhand.

Re: X-Files Nostalgia

This isn't nostalgia so much as it is childhood memory, but my dad used to watch X-files when I was young (perhaps 7 years old) and clips from one or two episodes have always stuck in my mind. One was a male figure with very pink, severe-burn-victim-looking skin. Another was a young boy playing with action figures in a sandbox.

That's vague as hell (probably because I always ran out of the room when the theme song played, lol), but I'm curious if someone can match those brief images to a particular episode. It's always fascinating to watch something as an adult that you only remember through a child's eyes.

Re: X-Files Nostalgia

I am pretty sure those are both from the same episode. Season 3, episode 7 - "The Walk".

Weirdly, I had a similar experience with that episode - not with my dad, but I distinctly remember seeing patches of it on a hotel TV or something when I was a kid.
