It was recommended to me, and I thought it would be pretty good, and I watched all of it, except for the film. But it was terrible.
All the characters sounded the same, had the exact same sense of humour despite coming from very different places and classes. They were either perfect Mary Sues (Kaylee, Mal, Inara) whose faults were romanticised, or the were sainted sidekicks (the married couple, I forget their names). Simon and River were OK, though, and Jayne had his moments even if his episode was trite and predictable.
That could describe the whole series, by the way; trite and predictable. All the plotlines have been done before in less shallow works of fiction (and with more nuance).
It was also really going for the "happy whore" angle, while still having Mal putting Inara down because of her profession. Both things left a bad taste in my mouth.
Also, of course, the lack of actual people with Chinese roots in a setting supposed to be dominated and ruled by people with Chinese roots (or China? I never found out if countries were still a thing). The main characters swore a lot in Chinese, which mystified me until someone explained it to me. Not even the prominent bad guys were of Chinese descent.
(Just to be clear, I don't think badly of people who like Firefly. I don't think liking a piece of fiction reflects on a person's morality. It just really, really didn't work for me.)

Though the glorification of prostitution and the casual "whore" insults would have to go as well.
