He's frickin' creepy. Part of it is the dissonance between his animated voice and the fact that he just stands there calmly, but also that VOICE. It's just - ugh! I can't stand him!

At the same time, though, I feel like I'm underestimating him for some reason. No evidence, just a nagging feeling.

This has been your daily Skyrim rant. (Please no Dark Brotherhood spoilers, I haven't yet been to see Marionette Amoiound, or whatever his name is, in Volunruud.)

Ahhhhhhh, Cicero was okay. He was a pretty great orator, even if he was a bit of a stick in the mud, and even if you can say that his wavering political resolution in the period after the Catilinian conspiracies played a role in the decline of the Republic

...Either I've been underestimating this guy to the zillionth degree, I haven't hit the point in the Dark Brotherhood questline where this makes sense, this is backstory that I'm not aware of, or we're talking about two completely different Ciceros. Um, the insane guy who's the Keeper of the Night Mother's corpse, right?

Sorry, sorry, just making a dumb joke. Referring to the most well-known Cicero there is.

Ah. So the answer is, I'm an idiot and too wrapped up in Skyrim. Good to know. ;)

But have you ever tried translating his work? That is a real reason to hate the guy.

I know, really? I took a year and a half of Latin, and I had more trouble with Cicero than anyone else.

Fucking Cicero. If I never have to translate another thing by him I'll die happy.

Cicero was probably one of my favorite things about the Dark Brotherhood quest line, but I can see how he could get creepy or even grating after a while. And yeah, the thing that sold Cicero for me was his voice actor. You can just tell that the dude was having a blast speaking those lines.

(Also, it took me way too long to figure out how short Cicero really is. I even took screenshots and marveled at them after I'd had my share of Skyrim for that day.)

In fairness, Cicero actually changes height at least once, if not twice, iirc. [I don't know why they gave his character models different heights @_@]

Mm, it might be that I was playing with headphones on, but something about his voice just rubbed me the wrong way. He might grow on me, I dunno.

The other thing, which I forgot to mention before, is that his character model looks like he's got too much eye makeup on. It doesn't really contribute to my opinion of him, but... there are ways to make a guy look really good with makeup on, and in my (lesbian) opinion, that wasn't one of them.

He's standing there ranting and raving but for all that his body language is doing he could well be saying, "Now, what was it? Oh, yes, why don't you harvest some wheat for me?"

Yeah, Cicero really doesn't come off as a guy who could stay still for the few moments it would take to apply all that eyeliner. At least that's what I remember thinking about the first time I saw him in the game. And the makeup just _pops_ since he's super pale if you don't count his rosy cheeks or nose.

Aaand now I'm pretty sure that the next time I'm playing the Dark Brotherhood quest line I'll just imagine Cicero playing the role of a slightly huffy farmer :P But as far as I can tell, a lot of the characters in Skyrim have that problem. It just really sticks out with characters like Cicero, because judging by their voices they should be animated as damn when they're talking, but instead they just... settle for waving their arms a bit. I do like that little dance he does, but it's not quite enough to make up for his otherwise poor body language.

Yeah, it's like, there are several guys I wouldn't mind seeing eyeliner or other makeup on in Skyrim. Cicero... could be one of them, but not as he is right now.

Honestly the dragons probably have the whole animation thing down better than any of the humans. Especially Odahviing and Alduin. But Astrid has it pretty bad - she's very... slinky, and she very much knows what she's doing with her voice as least, and I would have liked to see her body language match. There's one point where she gives this throaty, sarcastic laugh and I would have liked for her to tilt her head back or something, because that's what people usually do when they make that sound.

But... I understand why they didn't do that. 'Cause if you do it for one character, you have to do it for them all, or the rest look really bad. And that would take forever, and probably be really hard unless you used some pretty intense motion capture (ex: having character put their hands on their hips, rather than in them), as well as probably making the file size absolutely enormous (well, bigger than it is now). Plus more money, etc.

he makes me uncomfortable at certain points but ultimately i sympathise with him. i prefer his views over astrid's, at the very least.

I...like that at least he's trying to kill me in self-defense, when he tries to kill me. >.>

He can make me pretty uncomfortable though, especially when it comes to The Dark Mother [seriously, I get a ton of Necrophilia vibes from him]. But then again, climbing in the coffin makes me really uncomfortable too, so. @_@

[I just have a phobia of dead bodies, so the idea of touching a corpse gives me all the squicks.]
