I don't think you're going to get the argument you're looking for. I love AC a lot, but I think the concept of endings ran over the series's dog or something.

lmao, this. I see people constantly hate on the series' endings. If you aren't at least a bit annoyed or frustrated with them then you're the odd man out. (Which I can totally understand seeing as they're all the worst kind of cliffhangers, and each one just gets weirder and weirder and yea, I think there's some valid criticism.)

That said, I don't personally hate them, but every single time I finish an Assassin's Creed game I go, "...What the hell just happened AND WHY WOULD YOU LEAVE IT THERE?

All of this. Yes.

The endings are equal parts "argh!" and "wtf?" and each installment only gets worse. Thank heavens I'm only in it for the gameplay and plot is very secondary.
elaminator: (Assassin's Creed Brotherhood: Ezio)

The gameplay and setting got me into the series, but I do very much enjoy the plot. I'm used to confusing and nonsensical in video games so that isn't new, but I won't say it doesn't sometimes take me by surprise.

I'm pretty sure my first words upon completing Assassin's 1 were, "What the fuck?" and things just escalated from there, heh.

The gameplay is definitely a good enough reason to play though, imo.

Personally I love the plot, and while the constant cliffhangers get annoying...I also like how they get people thinking and speculating more than they probably would otherwise.

...That, and I admittedly like having endings that give me that reaction. ^^;;

I love how ambitious the whole plot is, how it really does go over all of history, and I love how you get that from puzzles made by a crazy person.

I really would like a more conclusive ending though, Ubisoft. Cliffhangers are getting old.

I really think Mass Effect 3 took the course 'Endings 101 - Assassin's Creed Style.' :p

It makes me not all that excited to start AC3's singleplayer but I've been having fun with the multiplayer so... there's that?
elaminator: (Assassin's Creed 3: Connor - how you doi)

[personal profile] elaminator 2013-01-10 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
Since you haven't played AC3 I won't comment too much on that except to say that despite its issues I love the game. And Connor, too. It's a bit different from the other AC's, and some people weren't enthused with the story, but it did a lot of things I like very well, imo.

And I completely agree about ME3.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-10 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
While I didn't care much for Connor [his personality just rubbed the wrong way, in a lot of ways] I will say they handled some topics that would be very easy to get preachy and/or fall too heavily one way or the other on, very very well.

[identity profile] galerian-ash.livejournal.com 2013-01-09 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you mean the ending to Assassin's Creed II, or the ending to the second part in general (i.e. Ezio's story)? Either way, what about it pissed you off so much?

Also, I see AC fans complain about the series all the time -- no one minds! So no, you're not gonna get flogged.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-09 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm...not completely sure what you mean by 'part 1/2'? Do you mean like the characters? Or the actual games AC 1/2?

Either way, I don't really mind the endings, but I can defiantly see why someone wouldn't like them.

I wouldn't worry about pissing anyone off. In the AC fandom if you aren't bitching about at least one of the endings then it's likely you're not a real fan [kidding of course]. Plus it seems really common that the reaction to the ending of an Assassin's Creed game is, "What the ever-loving fuck just happened?" So sounds to me like you're good to go!

Not by me. I think AC is overrated pap.

[personal profile] kyuusei 2013-01-10 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
AC is known for its craptastic endings and all, but I'm confused as to whether you mean 'the ending of ACII' or 'the ending to Ezio's trilogy' ... because I can't remember what was so bad about ACII's ending.

Other than that, you're pretty much right at home with other AC fans. :p

[personal profile] chronophage 2013-01-10 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
Except it's generally accepted that AC has a really shitty plot, and that people are just playing it for the characters and gameplay.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-10 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
*person who likes the overall plot raises lonely hand*

(Anonymous) 2013-01-10 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Yyyyyyyyup basically

And the costume/scenery porn. It's lovely to look at. Shame about the plot.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-10 08:58 am (UTC)(link)
Heehee, me too OP. Just got into the franchise after AC3 comes out (and is playing through Brotherhood right now!). Let's just say I've given up hoping for a comprehensible ending by now, and pretty much expect ACB, ACR, and AC3 no less to have the same mind-screw endings, ha.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-10 05:59 pm (UTC)(link)
But it's not just the endings.
It started going down the drain when they decided "Hey, fuck, who cares what we said in the last two games, we'll just change shit, it's not like those stupid fans would notice" and "Hey, let's have some guy who doesn't give a shit about the franchise write some novels and then add them to the official canon even though it doesn't make sense and will piss people off".

I know energy blasts are not exactly fire persay, but Starfire from Teen Titans (animation) was like the powerhouse of the team. And also has the word "fire" in her name.
