Hey--don't put spoilers in a direct response to General Comments if you can help this. I would've been spoiled completely if I'd hit the little 2 link and hadn't seen it already.

Don't read a post that is labeled (spoilers) if you don't want to be spoiled :P

bad form

(Anonymous) 2013-01-10 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
It's kind of bad form to put it as the first comment. It won't ever collapse and is kind of hard not to see, even skimming by.

If you read an entire paragraph that has a spoiler header than it's your own fault.

Yeah seriously. I concede it could have been done better, but there was a warning. Anybody that gets to the spoilers has themselves to blame first.

AYRT

Eh, I have a lot of reading comprehension problems which basically means I tend to read things out of order, skimming all over the place. A lot of the time when a comment is expanded/showing like the first one I skip the Subject and just start skimming then bounce around. It's dumb, but then so is my brain so whatever.

I mean you put a warning and all so it's fine, I was just saying it's bad form to put it right up there as the first comment.

Some of us speed read and can read an entire paragraph like that like a snapshot before we have a chance to scroll past

I don't really care about the spoilers in this particular case but yeah

Still your own fault if you can't be assed to slow down in a place where spoilers are known to live.

Re: bad form

(Anonymous) 2013-01-10 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
I don't really understand why you're being so jerky about this? Nobody here is really yelling at you or telling you to never post or anything, just saying that it's generally seen as bad form to post spoilers in the very first comment without even the title of the show.

And I don't think you understand how people read.

Are you new to FS perhaps? Or just bored and looking for arguments?

Not if you, like, pay attention to shit long enough to notice "Hey, there's a warning here and I probably want to not look at this area of text, like, AT ALL.".

Except you didn't even mention what the spoilers were for. Putting an episode name isn't enough, come on.

Re: Jake the dad (Spoilers)

(Anonymous) 2013-01-10 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
Uh, yes I did. Jake the dad is the name of the episode.

Maybe you should spend more time actually reading what people say, instead of pretending to be a bunch of different anons? Y'know, just a thought.

Re: Jake the dad (Spoilers)

the episode of what is what people are arguing

Re: Jake the dad (Spoilers)

(Anonymous) 2013-01-10 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
It's not someone else's fault that people are too lazy to read a title and spoiler warning. The name of the episode is in the title. Don't be lazy next time?

Re: Jake the dad (Spoilers)

(Anonymous) 2013-01-10 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, please. If you know there's something you don't know about a series and don't want to be spoiled, the onus is on you to avoid potential spoilers by avoiding talk of said series -- ESPECIALLY when it includes a spoiler warning, so you know some plot element is going to be up for discussion.

Re: Jake the dad (Spoilers)

[identity profile] galerian-ash.livejournal.com 2013-01-10 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
Don't you realize that what you just said is in favor of my argument, not yours?

If I want to avoid spoilers about a series, then it'd only make sense that I don't know the upcoming episode names. Hence a spoiler warning containing nothing but that isn't enough.

If you follow the show it is. If you dont' follow the show... why are you whining?

Re: Jake the dad (Spoilers)

(Anonymous) 2013-01-10 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
But they never even said what show it was for. I actually thought it was spoilers for a show called Jake the Dad.

da

I'm still not sure what it even is for! Adventure Time? OP should have mentioned the show at well. Jake is such a common name that it took me until I saw the word "pups" to make the connection.

Re: Jake the dad (Spoilers)

[identity profile] galerian-ash.livejournal.com 2013-01-10 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
I disagree. I rarely keep track of episode titles for series I watch, and if it's something I'm actively trying to avoid spoilers for then I'll definitely not know.

Secondly, how am I whining? And what does it matter if I follow the series or not? It's a matter of common courtesy -- it should make no difference whether I'm directly affected or not! (That reasoning of yours just reminds me of that old "First they came..." quote, however non-comparable it may be.)
