Re: did I read that right?

Well I would say 'berating' is a bit much but yeah I have had comments put my way kind of going 'oh you're too old' or 'why do you like this' when I'm thinking 'but why did you encourage me then?'

They sort of do it with my drawing and gaming too. Like I get told off for 'being on your computer all the time' and it's like 'But you're the ones who introduced me to computers, and you encouraged me to play video games, and if you have such a problem why did you let me get a laptop?'

And that how dare I just want to work on stuff and be 'busy' when I have to run around doing stuff when my mum can apparently sit around all day doing her cross stitch with no problem but I can't sit around drawing all day.

I have parents like this OP. They give me so much crap for being on my PC often.

My parents even treat my long time boyfriend like this too. He's got a full time job, pays his bills, takes cares of all his other responsibilities but they still say that he's childish because he likes to play video games or use his lappy on his free @ home time. They don't seem to accept those things as adult hobbies.

Forgot to add...

Being on my pc often is part of my job so its even more wtf that they nag about it.

I draw as well but instead of telling me to find a better hobby, they encourage me to draw instead of doing other hobbies. That's the only acceptable type of hobby I have to them.

Oh. Well that is dickish of them, for lack of a better word. I dunno sometimes people are weird.

My guess is that they only wanted you to like those things while you were "a young one" and then basically ditch them once you turned into whatever age they had settled for "adult life" and then magically like, I dunno, business reports, the stocks exchange, sports or whatever people think is "acceptable adult interests".

Is the only logical explanation I have that paints them in an okay light in this one thing.
