did I read that right?
(Anonymous) 2013-01-10 06:35 am (UTC)(link)That's, um...
Your parents are kind of tools, op.
Like, not being interested? Okay, it happens. Disappointing, but different people have different tastes. Not much you can do there!
Thinking it's a waste of time? Parents have different views of life, so to them it probably is. A tad disrespectful to tell you so bluntly to your face, but I'm sure they mean well and only want to encourage you to be productive. (I hope.)
But, actually introducing you to something and then berating you for liking it? I hope I misread your secret, because that's some A-Grade Psycho-manipulative bullshit right there.
I mean, it is late at night. Maybe I did read that wrong? Because, uh, if I didn't, yeah, you're not being whiny in the least, OP. O_O
Re: did I read that right?
(Anonymous) 2013-01-10 08:05 am (UTC)(link)They sort of do it with my drawing and gaming too. Like I get told off for 'being on your computer all the time' and it's like 'But you're the ones who introduced me to computers, and you encouraged me to play video games, and if you have such a problem why did you let me get a laptop?'
And that how dare I just want to work on stuff and be 'busy' when I have to run around doing stuff when my mum can apparently sit around all day doing her cross stitch with no problem but I can't sit around drawing all day.
Re: did I read that right?
(Anonymous) 2013-01-10 04:59 pm (UTC)(link)My parents even treat my long time boyfriend like this too. He's got a full time job, pays his bills, takes cares of all his other responsibilities but they still say that he's childish because he likes to play video games or use his lappy on his free @ home time. They don't seem to accept those things as adult hobbies.
Re: did I read that right?
(Anonymous) 2013-01-10 05:04 pm (UTC)(link)Being on my pc often is part of my job so its even more wtf that they nag about it.
I draw as well but instead of telling me to find a better hobby, they encourage me to draw instead of doing other hobbies. That's the only acceptable type of hobby I have to them.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-11 12:00 am (UTC)(link)My guess is that they only wanted you to like those things while you were "a young one" and then basically ditch them once you turned into whatever age they had settled for "adult life" and then magically like, I dunno, business reports, the stocks exchange, sports or whatever people think is "acceptable adult interests".
Is the only logical explanation I have that paints them in an okay light in this one thing.
