I want to watch Being Human. Should I watch the UK or US one? I find the UK's cast hotter (and it has that big eared dude from Sherlock I love), but I think the US version has longevity?

I watch both. They end up feeling different to me, but I agree about the UK cast.

why not one and then the other

I prefer the US version because it seemed to have more developed character backstories.

I tried watching the US version, but I didn't like it as much as the UK version. (Though, the UK, version, imo, falls off the rails and goes skidding into an explosives factory at the end of season three. Haven't worked up the nerve to watch the fourth season yet.)

Plus, Aidan Turner is gorgeous.

The fourth season was surprisingly good. I was really, really worried about what they were going to do with it after all of the news of cast members leaving, but they actually managed to do a pretty good job with things considering all of the changes. There were a few plot points that made me go "wut", but I can say that for pretty much all the seasons, lol. Tom and Hal are pretty amazing as characters and they managed not to just make them Mitchell and George v 2.0. IMO, anyway. YMMV, obviously.

I haven't watched the US version so I can't speak to that, but the UK version is definitely worth the time! There are really great characters (which is good, since the first season is a bit shaky at times). It's also only 6-8 episodes per season, so it's pretty easy to plow through. :)

And as far as longevity goes, the UK version is actually still ongoing. I don't remember an exact date, but series 5 should start airing soonish.

I've watched both and I prefer UK. It definitely has rough moments, but I could barely stand the cast of the US version near the end of the second season (before that they were fine). The UK characters are just more likable to me (Tom and Hal included), but I don't honestly hate the US version either and I did enjoy it quite a bit for a time.

They have their similarities of course, but US does depart from UK enough to keep things 'interesting', so I'd just suggest watching both and see how it goes.

Both are good but really, by the second season, they are really two different shows. You can watch both and it will feel like two separate shows because the characters and themes are so different.

UK THEME: Trying to find ways to be normal, despite their condition.
US THEME: Trying to find a place and more, importantly a family where they belong.

The US is more genre strong than the UK one. There's a well developed supernatural element when compared to the UK one, which sometimes feels shoehorned in to be nothing more than a gimmick.

Go with the UK, if you're only going to watch one.

The US apparently got better once they ran out of UK stories to adapt and went totally their own way, but it's really terrible early on. (I'm especially annoyed by the Buffy-ization of the vamps.)

Also, yes...the cast is hotter, and far less bland looking, for the most part. (The ghost girl being the only exception...I think the American one is much more interesting looking, while the British one is a sort of bland 'generic pretty'.)

Buffy-ization of the vamps?

How so? I love Buffy and Being Human (US) and I don't see how their vampires are alike outside both are savage killers without a sparkle in sight.

The UK vamps were pretty traditional, in the line of Dracula or Carmilla - they had a few tells and a couple odd weaknesses, but mainly were just immortal and fed on human blood, which you would never know if you just passed one in the street.

The US ones added the fang-face ('garlic makes us look like us'). IIRC, to their credit, they kept the ability to walk about during the day, instead of going the 'Vampires are nocturnal by nature, therefor sunlight kills them' route that's been treated as canon since Nosferatu.

Wait. The UK one had the same faces as the US one. Fangs and black eyes.

The difference I see between the US and UK vampire is that the US vampires are far more vicious than the UK ones. The US ones are monsters. They don't seem Human at all. (The Amish vampires eating through that one vampire's neck for example was extremely brutal and animalistic.) The UK ones are more like mobsters with a strange eating addiction disorder.

According to everyone, I should watch both. So I will watch the UK first then the US
