Because the secrets are sparse and uncontroversial again today, lets have a thread reccing fanfics that made us cry. Or feel like crying, if you're not the crying type. Long weepy angsty fics are good, but I'm curious if people have any of those short gutpunch vignettes that the fanfic medium is so perfectly tailored to, given good writers.

A Cure for Love, (Death Note, L/Light). Gah. Freaking long, and the people that survive, you almost don't want them to, because dying would be easier. I seriously had to stop reading every now and then, just to take a break.

This one, on the other hand, titled Comfort (bbc Sherlock, gen), makes me cry in a not sad way. It's not really a happy story, but it's so sweet. It's also much shorter.

This little Doctor Who fic put a lump in my throat and stayed with me for the rest of the day after reading it. It's ostensibly a really cool and fairy-tale-ish perspective on the Doctor's character and his special relationship with the human species, but comes away as a lovely stealth tribute to Ian and Barbara:

Tales of Republic City. While I had a few problems with the characterization of some characters (Mainly Lin - it was correct for the most part, but she seemed too open later on) and didn't particularly cry, it was touching at points.

Lots of them. Because I'm weepy like that. I don't typically read short!fic, so most of these are verging on novel length.

Abed breaks from reality as the world and his friends slip away during the zombie apocalypse. I've read this five times and somehow it gets even more sad and beautiful every time I read it.

Final Fantasy VII

This one makes more sense if you've read The Fifth Act by Sinnatious, but the gist of TFA is: Cloud accidentally breaks a Time Materia and winds up back in time near the end of the Wutai War. The Nibelheim incident hasn't happened, Sephiroth hasn't gone bonkers after finding Jenova and thus there is the chance that Cloud might stop Meteor, the Nibelheim incident, and all the many deaths from the canon plotline.

Short one-shot: "what if Cloud had traveled back even more years in the past?"

I know there's at least one other anon here who likes Danny Phantom, so I'm going to say the fic that finally got me to watch the show. Ghosts in the Closet by MyAibou (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4500910/1/Ghosts-in-the-Closet) gets all of my tears. Every damn time. I'm not totally sold on the ending but the first half is just note-perfect and tear-jerking.

Une Belle Journée: one of my favorite Kyou Kara Maoh fics, though it's been a long time since I was in that fandom, so it may not be as good as I remember it. TW: suicide.

Static Cling: a Supernatural fic about Adam Milligan haunting the Winchesters. Holy Chuck, I bawled like a baby when they put him to rest. This author's Supernatural fics are all AMAZING.

Most of the fics that have made me cry are from the Supernatural fandom. Then again, it does lend itself to tragedy very well.

Ten Thousand Miles by mimblexwimble (http://mimblexwimble.livejournal.com/54645.html). Never fails to make me cry each time.

Also, We Came Along This Road by yourpalkara (http://yourpalkara.livejournal.com/12484.html). It's short but it's so heartbreaking looking at how wonderful the Winchester's lives would have been backwards.

Some Hetalia fics! Because everyone always needs Hetalia. Warning: I don't actually cry, but these are definitely the fics that touched me emotionally.

This Above All
Veneziano turns to him and says, "Germany, don't you ever get tired of Romano hating you?"
(A short drabble, but it packs an emotional punch.)

The Island
(Uh...this fic is pretty intense. It's dark and confusing and meta, and I actually love it to pieces. At core, though, it's very hopeful. Don't read if you don't like intense mind fuckery, violent imagery, mutual non-con, and vaguely creepy Germancest. (Pairings are not the focus, but those included would be Germany/Italy, some Prussia/Germany, some Prussia/France, plus some implied ones.))
