(Anonymous) 2013-01-12 12:57 am (UTC)(link)Also I don't get the massive hate for spoilers. At all. I can know the plot of something in detail and still enjoy it. In fact, sometimes I look up plots deliberately.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-12 02:05 am (UTC)(link)Hell I'd been reading many of the Doctor Who wikipedia pages for years before I ended up watching Doctor Who (just recently) - usually because someone would say something about the show and I'd get curious enough to read the wikipedia page but not bother watching. And I still check the various episode pages for the episodes as I watch them just to make sure I'm not missing something important. Still hasn't changed my enjoyment of the story.
As a side point I usually roll my eyes and laugh every time the Doctor and River talk about "spoilers" in her journal - I mean I get why in this case because there's a risk of messing up a time line or something but still occasionally my first thought is OMG JUST READ the damn thing already!

(Anonymous) 2013-01-12 02:51 am (UTC)(link)There've actually been studies (well, one: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/08/11/spoilers-study_n_924413.html) that show at least some people agree with me on that. But I recognize that not everyone does, so I try not to spoil things for anyone unless they ask.

And then a lot of other shows, I like knowing when/if reoccurring characters pop up against or which ships end up becoming canon/stay fanon. I think it's because those sort of things aren't inherent to the plot, and it's something someone could easily look forward to and never have it pay off (a fascinating lead that never gets developed, 5 seasons of teasing but not a single kiss, etc). So if I know in advance, I can stop focusing on stuff that might never happen and just enjoy the plot.
