Notes:

Sorry, early today!

Also: I'm not going to officially warn for tongue-in-cheek "triggers" just to provide anyone with a fandom-specific in-joke when there are none in the secret.

Wait, that's Cillian Murphy?
[looks again]
Holy shit, it is! And here I was wondering why someone used a picture to Taylor Swift to discuss cross-dressing...

There's deadly peanut allergies and there's simple "eww, peanuts". One does not allow you to consume a small dosage of peanuts to make a point with the unamused faces you make while doing so. The other one does.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-12 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
They said they can't read it? IDK, maybe they're squicked out by it being a kink. Crossdressing doesn't have to be sexual, maybe OP is squicked when fics describe it in lurid detail, like how another character finds them arousing when they're wearing those clothes.

I don't know, it's just a guess. Crossdressing has never squicked me, but I've been left confused by some people assuming that only gay men can do it.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-12 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
They didn't say triggered or anything. Squicked out just means really uncomfortable, so I don't see how that would stop you from making a secret with the pic.

OP HERE!

(Anonymous) 2013-01-12 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't mind movies about crossdressing/feature crossdressing. Nor do I mind crossdressers or fics about crossdressers. But SEXUAL kinks about cross dressing squick me out.
seiberwing: (Bad Idea)

[personal profile] seiberwing 2013-01-12 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Squick is more like something gross by the side of the road. One can look at it, it's just that one really prefers not to.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-12 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
When I see actual flesh-and-blood men crossdress, I have zero reaction. When I see (fan)art or read (fan)fiction of crossdressing men, even of men who I've seen crossdressed IRL, it squicks me out of my mind.

I have no idea what my brain is doing sometimes.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-12 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
All the crossdressing fic I've read (not much, tbh) seems to have this weird "forced feminization" vibe to it, whether implicitly or explicitly. That's the part that really freaks me out. There ain't no shame in being a woman, and it's not weakening in any way for a man to put on a dress.

OP

*shrugs* cross-dressing does nothing for me either, OP. I don't think squicks are measured by hardcore-ness threshold. It's like if you're into a certain extreme kink, you are obliged to not be squicked by all comparatively milder kinks.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-12 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree.

Or consider that quite a few people (me included) find characters embarrassing themselves in non-sexual situations almost unbearable to look at/listen to, yet will read the hell out of porn with humiliation aspects.

Brains are quirky.

Squicks seem to run on their own logic half the time. I have a major embarrassment squick and yet I've been enjoying Mr. Bean of late.

It's just penetrated the fog of my brain that alpha/beta/omega has come up a few times of late. Can anybody enlighten me as to what it means? I'd Google but, ya know, kink.

It has to do with sexual roles. Omegas are the submissives. They go into heat, the guys are self-lubricating and can get pregnant, sometimes they're portrayed as having to sleep with anyone who wants them.

Alpha/Beta/Omega or Alpha/Omega (occasionally Alpha/Beta) is a kink trope where some or all people have defined biological roles based on a hierarchical system, with the terms originating from animal behaviour research. There may be werewolf, knotting, or other animalistic elements involved, or the characters may be otherwise purely human.

Alphas are generally dominant and able to impregnate Omegas. Male Alphas usually have a knot when aroused.

Betas are subordinate to Alphas and may or may not be able to impregnate Omegas; in some fanworks Betas aren't present and the trope is known as Alpha/Omega, in others they take the role and functions of Omegas and Omegas aren't present.

Omegas are generally lowest on the hierarchy (although in some fanworks Omegas are rare and prized). Male Omegas are self-lubricating and have the ability to become pregnant, sometimes referred to as being bred or mated. Lovers may form pair-bonds with a special connection with telepathic or empathetic qualities. Paired Alphas may be jealous and possessive of their mate, while the Omega may become submissive. Omegas and Alphas may go into heat and need to have sex; this may be the only time Omegas are fertile.

Crossdressing doesn't bother me irl, but I can't read about my OTPs crossdressing at all. It's a thing, so I feel you.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-12 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
For some reason, I get squicky over men crossdressing, but find women crossdressing to be pretty damn hot. Not that this necessarily means anyhing to you.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-13 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
Same. Mostly because it's hard for someone to write men cross-dressing to women without feeling vaguely insulted at the female stereotypes that always get brought up and exaggerated.

Oddly enough, I identify as a straight woman, but if a woman can cross-dress and look like a man...I'm so on board. Regardless of what genitalia I find when I get downstairs.

Also? Cillian Murphy. Whoooo.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-13 07:45 am (UTC)(link)
Man, for several long seconds I was really confused because I thought that was Scarlett Johansen.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-13 06:37 pm (UTC)(link)
There's no rhyme or reason to what turns us on or off sometimes, OP. I will never, EVER be able to find water sports sexy, and BDSM dynamics are something I've had to work myself up to (had a friend in a fucked up kinky relationship who decided it was healthy, and I've only had bad experiences with it myself), but cross dressing and mpreg if they're written well? HELL YES FROM MY CORNER. *shrug*
