(Anonymous) 2013-01-12 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)No, I don't think it's weird. That was the case for me until I discovered "Catch-22" and watched LoTR (surprisingly, only the film!Gollum works for me not the book! one - then again, I was really little when I read Tolkien).
IDK what it depends on, though? The aptitude for empathy? The attitude towards fiction?
There're also those characters I don't exactly identify with but rather whom I understand well - like, everyone by Borges or, for example, Luzhin from Nabokov's "The Defense".

I can roleplay characters who aren't like me at all and be perfectly fine at that, but then if asked "would you say you are like your character" it'd be kind of ...? huh? what? No?
