I think people would complain more if the game did get made though. A lot of people disliked Ruby and Sapphire.

That falls under the category of "don't like, don't buy". Also, almost everyone I've talked to about this also wants the remakes...I really think not making them would generate more complaints than making them.

I liked the characters and the Pokemon, but Teams Magma and Aqua were the stupidest freaking teams ever. Everyone else, I could see where they were coming from with their admittedly also-silly criminal plans, but Magma and Aqua were just balls-out stupid.

haha, i love R/S. they're my favourite games. But i don't expect them to be remade. they were enjoyable enough, but remaking them just feels silly considering it didn't do as well as the others. leave well enough alone, y'know?

I think you may have forgotten that the worst-selling Pokemon game is still the best-selling almost anything else, and still will make millions and millions of dollars. RSE did very, very well. There is no way they would refrain from remaking them just because their target audience was going through mass puberty in 2003, especially since so many people who once disliked RSE have come around to liking that generation and Nintendo is likely well aware of this.

Yeah, the combined unit sales of Ruby and Sapphire were around 13 million, making them collectively the best-selling title on the Gameboy Advance. And if you add in Emerald sales, that number shoots up to a bit over 19 million. True, RSE didn't sell quite as well as the other gens, but it sold leaps and bounds better than anything else on the GBA.
And... well, when RSE came out, those people who were kids when RBY came out were in that awkward age range where anything you liked when you were younger is uncool and kiddie and stupid and for babies, and that had mostly subsided for the original Pokemon generation by the time DPPt came around. I've met quite a few Pokemon fans who've liked the franchise since gen 1, but skipped gen III for that very reason.
