It'd depend on how seriously the dude meant it, tbh. I was going to say, "because seriously, who feels that strongly about Hogwarts houses?" But then I read this thread.

This is fandom!secrets. People here are going to take fandom seriously, whether or not you approve.

I'm always baffled as to why Harry Potter gets singled out for "omg you are so immature if you take this seriously" though. That happens almost every time there's a Hogwarts house-related secret.

My guess is that it's a fandom that, like it or not, revolves around a children's book. Albeit one that progressively matures. And generally, fandoms that revolve around children's material try SO. HARD. to pretend it isn't. It's like every day the atla fandom says "look, look genocide! Genocide, hmmm?! Not a kids show!" I think this makes the people who don't mind it lash out against those that do. So they're less forgiving.

Hmm. That's an interesting perspective.

I mean I adore things like Harry Potter, My Little Pony, Yu-Gi-Oh! and Pokemon. But I fully understand that they are/were originally marketed towards children.

I just love them anyway. XD

And on the other side of the discussion...people who are all "EW NO THAT'S FOR KIDS" need to understand that lots of adults/older teens actually to partake in all of those franchises and in most cases the creators of the franchise are aware of this and will sometime add elements that will appeal to them without taking away from that which is available to kids. (Great example: competitive breeding and training mechanics in Pokemon that are way too complicated for your average ten-year-old. Oh, and subtle pop culture references in MLP. There's one ep that gives homage to I Love Lucy and it's probably one of my favorite scenes.)
