Is this her?

(Anonymous) 2013-01-18 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
I'd dump a guy for saying that, too, but only because I'd think it's ridiculous for anyone my age to care that much about it.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-18 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
absolutely this.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-18 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
It'd depend on how seriously the dude meant it, tbh. I was going to say, "because seriously, who feels that strongly about Hogwarts houses?" But then I read this thread.

Anyone immature enough to get into an argument about fictional Houses in a fictional school honestly is not mature enough to date. Good for your sister!

Don't worry; I'm sure she'll find someone else who won't mind s badgers. We Puffs are good finders after all. c;

So is 'oversensitive and incapable of distinguishing fiction from reality' a Hufflepuff trait?

Anyone who thinks loyalty and diligence are worthless traits ought to be kicked to the curb, good on your sister. Also, that is a really sweet version of the Hufflepuff crest.

I don't know if I'd get behind that being the only reason for breaking up, but as a last straw it does just fine.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-18 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe the sister rants on and on about how much Hufflepuff people are "oppressed" or some bullshit like that and the boyfriend eventually said "well Hufflepuff IS worthless! SO THERE" because he couldn't deal with it anymore and then he was totally relieved when she broke up with him. And in the months to comes he hooks up with and starts dating a Slytherin LOLOLOL

OP elaborates!

(Anonymous) 2013-01-18 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
He's the kind of ass who makes a show of disliking anything someone else really likes just to get a rise out of them. In small doses, that's fine, but he did it constantly and never knew where to draw the line between a little bit of good-natured teasing and just plain mean-spirited.

I'm so relieved they broke up.

if he said this during a fight that was already particularly vicious just to piss off your sister then I guess I understand but if one day he just insulted hufflepuffs out of the blue and your sister was like "okay bye" then that's kind of stupid.

I don't think it's immature to find this unattractive in someone. Because it's not "just a house", they're basically saying nice, hardworking people are worthless. Like... okay? He's not insulting anyone by saying he dislikes Hufflepuff, he's insulting people who value those qualities.

Some posters here don't seem to get that. It's not about the actual house, because yes it is fictional and no none of us actually belong to a fictional house. It's about the traits they represent. And in reality, nice and fair people tend to get shit on a lot.

I would guess that there were reasons for the breakup beyond that one fight. That said, a remark like that belies a bad attitude, imo, or at least it could depending on the context. (Did your sister get Hufflepuff on Pottermore, for example?)

(Anonymous) 2013-01-18 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
If he looks down on loyalty and hard work, he's probably not someone worth dating. Good on your sister.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-18 05:25 am (UTC)(link)

I'm 24 and couldn't date someone who shat on Gryffindor constantly for no good reason without tact, so I know how your sister feels. Go gurl go! Contrarians are the worst.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-18 07:01 am (UTC)(link)
I just noticed that this crest looks like a really weird v-neck dress... anyway -

While I agree that house bashing is silly, I also agree that breaking up over something like that is silly (as a final straw? Oh alright whatever, bu otherwise...).

See - I think it's nice that people are actually trying to adopt the proper characteristics of the different houses, like "Slytherin is not evil" and all. But really look at the books, especially the early ones that were still written as highly stereotypical children's books (not that I mind, as I loved them when I was young, but still): ALL Slyherins were evil douchebags and Hufflepuffs were generally the not so intelligent people. Slytherins, in general, never really got treated any different even in the later books than collectively evil. How is someone who only had brushes with the canon and not the fandom really to know any better?

(Anonymous) 2013-01-18 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
what the hell is a hufflepuff?

(Anonymous) 2013-01-19 09:35 am (UTC)(link)
Your sister is awesome! *thumbs up*
