Oh yes it is and it's even made it into the Doctor Who tour, it's a tourist attraction. Although I'm not the AYRT and I have no idea why they even care. It's not as if you can't avoid it in Cardiff, it's in a very tucked away location. I think if those fans want to do it, let them, it doesn't hurt anyone.

This. They clearly weren't a part of fandom back then (or were hanging around some weird secluded circles). I remember RTD getting some pretty violent threats and accusations of homophobia despite, you know, him being gay and all.

Just as women can exhibit or endorse misogyny, it is in fact perfectly possible for gay people to exhibit or endorse homophobia. The society in which we live offers considerable pressure,underpinning and rewards for it.

I know that, but don't think it applies in this instance since a large part of it was a bunch of straight, slash-loving fangirls accusing a gay man - who'd also created shows like Queer as Folk - of hating gay people. No offense, but I will side-eye that kind of thing forever.
