5. I don't find the secret condescending, nowhere in it did OP bash yaoi fans, and it didn't really express love of het, just a character. Nowhere in the secret did it talk about a love for any het pairing, just Relena. I don't see how even the first part could be taken to mean all yaoi fans, since it referenced fem bashing, which in the case is more pertinent than that. I don't know where the OP ever infers that anyone is less of a fan for something.

Sorry. I've just seen secrets that read like "I was once a teeny fantard, then I discovered that men and women could have sex and I became a great writer and a wonderful person and het is the cure for all fandom ills. . ." and this one sort of came off like that to me. Maybe it isn't, in which I'm all for the writer and against the OOC fans that convinced her m/f was bad.

Really, I don't remember anyone saying that het was the cure for all fandom ills. But if they think it is such, then are they not allowed to hold that opinion, flawed or otherwise? Everyone, even yourself, has the right to feel and believe in what they so choose, which is what is a real marvel in this modern world. No one is really forced to bow to the opinions and desires of another. You don't have to accept what they like, and they don't have to accept what you like. And, here is the greatest marvel, if you don't like what they are saying or think, you don't have to listen to them or read their opinions.

Doesn't that help avoid problems?

I never meant to say they COULDN'T hold that opinion, just that it wasn't the only opinion ANYONE could hold. I'm not being anti-het, and I'm not against anyone sharing their opinion (please don't think I am, and I take offense to being characterized that way)

It is my personal belief that you owe the secret maker for both 5, and especially 19 as they commented personally, an apology, but alas, this is but my humble opinion. Do with it as you see fit.

Already apologized to 19 on her comment here. Going to apologize to five now.

For that I must say I shall respect you in part. Admitting potential fault or mistake is quite a difficult task, especially when one has the true anonymous nature of the internet.

*bows* I was so afraid I'd come off as insincere, but I am sincere. I misread both secrets due to past bad experiences online (obnoxious anti-yaoi het shippers and pro-anas) and for that, I'm sorry.

It happens to us all. I ask that in the future you take a bit more time to read a secret objectively before you leap to the conclusions you did today. Understanding is a basis of true humanity after all.

Re: 5

I am not the OP, so I have no idea what their intent was, I really can only speak for myself. I don't think the majority of het fans think the way you described, but I see them keep getting accused of this whenever they say anything about it. I just think you were overreading, and getting sensitive about it when you really didn't need to be. Like I said, the secret isn't even about m/f or m/m at all. For all we know the OP could just like Relena and still hate 1xR, which yes, people like that exist out there.

Re: 5

[identity profile] pretentioustfu.livejournal.com 2007-08-30 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed. I'm sorry for the overreaction. My fandom history involves being a part of a fandom where writing het was seen as the ultimate mark of fandom maturity and acceptance (and woe be unto you if you hated the OTP), where writing yaoi was something only acceptable by those who were friends of the then-BNFs.

Re: 5

[identity profile] kristenell.livejournal.com 2007-08-30 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
Understandable. Being a veteran of GW, I was in the opposite boat, being that I liked het, but was pretty much ridiculed for it, for being too bland or not being awakened to the pure love or some such one got in yaoi. And now that I ship het, yaoi, and yuri (although mainly het and yuri, since I am one of the weird ones who relates better with female characters than male ones) I just realize how ridiculous the whole thing is. People should just revel in their own preferences and not worry about what so and so is into, because really that is just bringing on a whole bout of unnecessary drama and stress.

And no need to apologize, I wasn't offended, just a little perturbed.
