Do it. I know the feeling. I used to write ridiculous over-the-top hurt/comfort when I felt like it, and I was very upset that there was nothing of that kind for my main fandoms (in fact, there's almost no fic at all, but let's skip this part).

I post those things. Though, admittedly, I remove them if I go back and see that the story is bad to the point of being unedible.

Okay, I can't help myself, "unedible" is such a precious typo there.

Heeeeeeeee. I agree. :)

Eh, id fandom has its 'LOLRANDUM' OOC hot messes, and then there's brilliant, perfect provocative/edgy sexual-romantic horror stuff. I'd try it if I were you, anon. You can get a lot of love by doing it right.

I'm working on a WIP that is 100% idfic, and it's being received well. It just depends on what readers find you and who winds up reccing you, really. I'm sure my headcanon annoys quite a few people, but I don't care.

*nods*

I'm getting the most positive response in terms of comments/kudos/hit count on an extremely self-indulgent id-fic I'm writing right now.

OP should go for it!

(Anonymous) 2013-01-19 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Keep writing idfic if that's what you enjoy, but don't expect that everyone's going to like it. People aren't required to enjoy a fic just because you had fun writing it.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-19 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think the OP expects everyone to enjoy their fic. They don't like people who judge their fic. You don't have to like the fic to remain unjudgemental.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-19 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't expect every fic to be brilliant, but I do expect them to be as error free as is reasonably feasible. If a grammar check kills your creativity and fun, then your fic was probably shit in any incarnation. I'm not a critical reader, but I'm a pretty critical not-reader about basic things. Don't do the basics and I won't read your fic. Simple.

...by which I mean, keep on keeping on. You'll only lose readers like me.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-19 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
+1 Consistency and demonstrable fluency in the language you're writing in are just my baseline expectations of writers, regardless of the content. I've nothing against shallow, self-indulgent fic because, yeah, it is supposed to be fun, but my expectations draw the line between "this isn't my cup of tea" and "this writer is utter shit."

(Anonymous) 2013-01-20 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think the OP wants readers like you.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-20 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
OP probably wants all the readers they can get, actually.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-20 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
Most writers want all the readers they can get but have certain types of readers they aren't willing to pander to.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-20 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
If by 'pander to' you mean taking 30 seconds to run the spell check before posting, then I guess the OP doesn't want me as a reader.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-21 11:12 am (UTC)(link)
Not the OP, but as someone who also writes shitty idfic, nope. I'm usually more interested in how I can keep my pool of readers small rather than large.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-20 05:08 am (UTC)(link)
... idfic?

(Anonymous) 2013-01-20 06:30 am (UTC)(link)
Infinite diversity in (infinite) fics?

I dunno, but I think it's some variant on kink fic, actually. Not as in kinky per se, but as in it hits all your personal kinks?

(Anonymous) 2013-01-20 01:46 pm (UTC)(link)
A fic derived from the Id, the baser part of the mind. A fic that its entire purpose is to cater to the author/readers wants and emotional kink, without paying attention to things such as proper characterization, relevancy to the canon, coherent plot.

Basically, something that's written just for fun.

I'm more disturbed by the assertion that people who care about grammar cannot, in fact, have fun in fandom than anything else here.

By all means write whatever the hell you want, but you do realize that your 'I do this for fun, I'm sorry you're too fussy to have any' line is just as judgey as you say you don't like, right?

(Anonymous) 2013-01-20 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Write it anyway!! I'd sooner read some fun fic that has feeling than bland fic with perfect SPAG any day.
