Switching POVs as in from first to second to third and back? Or switching POVs as in John's POV and then Sally's POV, etc etc? Because the latter I can understand but the former just sounds really strange and confusing.

I usually write John's POV in third person and Sally's in first, mostly to make sure the audience always knows who's speaking, partly as a cheat to make characterization easier.

Oh that would throw me right out of the story.

But to each their own!

In my experience, stories--fanfiction or original--that do that are universally terrible. Having never read any of your fics, I can't say for sure if this applies to you or not, but even so, it just sounds like the worst idea.

Not necessarily - I read a pretty cool YA fantasy series that did that. The idea of it was that the main character was sending journals of his adventures to his friends. His journals were written in first person, obviously, and his friends' adventures were written in third.

It worked.

I can see I'm not going to convince you, and you certainly aren't going to convince me. Either you have had terrible luck, or you have very limited tastes in fiction. Well, sucks to be you either way.

I'm doing this on a fic I'm working on (actually two fics but the other is a one-shot that has very small first person sections mixed with longer 3rd person so it's a bit different, at least IMO). I actually decided to do it mainly to see what effect the switching has because I just read Emily Giffen's book Heart of the Matter which did the same thing and am still sort of fascinated by it.

So yeah, love first person narration and OP sounds like kind of a dick since I agree that it sounds like they read the fic and then just won't leave a kudos, regardless of whether or not they actually enjoyed it.
