Shiemi never went to school when she was young because she was too sickly. Plus, she said that she wasn't good with crowds, which probably factored into the no school thing.

Also, I wouldn't say clumsiness is her only flaw, her naivete is a pretty big flaw, since it is what allowed her to be possessed by a demon.

Naivete is another one of those flaws that's as much of a positive in some ways as it is a negative, though. It's something that's really not to her detriment is a person, and I think something the target audience of the thing would find attractive.

This. Naivete is almost NEVER shown to be a real, destructive flaw in anime, even though it could be in real life.

Just because the target audience finds a trait attractive doesn't mean the trait won't be to the character's detriment, though.
