I agree with the first part of your secret but I really don't think she is presented as THE feminine ideal in the series, at least not in the manga. Her role is also not really reduced to "support the men around her" since she does have own motivations/goals so to say…it just so happens that most of the people around her are boys.

That being said, it's sad that you think no women/girls in real life are like her since I personally know some really sweet and supportive girls.

Anime seems to take a childlike innocence to the point of mental disability. There are people in real life like these girls, but they are autistic and really should not be sexualized like that.

Being nice=/=being an adult with that sort of childlike mental capacity.

As a general rule, autism comes with a degree of difficulty relating to others that usually comes across as offputting, not endearing.

Autism =/= childlike

(Also, depending on where someone is on the autistic spectrum and their own personal feelings, they may choose to enter a sexual relationship. Autism =/= sexless either.)

^THIS SO MUCH.

I am on the autistic spectrum and I would be very downright pissed off if someone tried to claim that any guy who ever had feelings for me was being a creeper or something like that.

It's a socialization thing in Japan. They like childlike youth while we like sexual peak youth. Their kids stay very childlike in mannerisms whereas in the west ours tend towards the grow-up-fast, in your face kind of sexuality. A young woman in Japan acting in ways we consider childlike is not necessarily underage, autistic or even really that silly under her social skin. It's just what they might have absorbed as the 'proper' way to behave.

I've always found it hilarious that people somehow think a young person acting like a young person is creepier than a 12-year-old dressed like a hooker. You really don't see any problems with this?

so if I have a childlike innocents, then I guess that means I'm autistic now...???

also wow did not know that autistic people are "too childlike to be sexualized", nevermind the dozens of autistic people who have children and sex lives and everyting! :o

yeah kind of shocking ... apparently people on the spectrum are people!

Being sweet and supportive isn't the problem here, I don't think. It's when your whole character is reduced to being sweet and supportive in the context of assisting the men around you.

One of the sweetest, kindest girls I've ever met is a good friend of mine. She is nothing like the "nice girls" in most anime I've seen--not only because she has more to her personality than "sweet and gentle", something that a lot of anime girls lack, but because she isn't totally innocent. No real person over the age of 15 in real life is completely pure of bad or dirty thoughts unless they lived a disturbingly sheltered life.

unless they lived a disturbingly sheltered life.

Which Shiemi the character in the secret did. She didn't even went to school and stayed at home most of the time.
